Birth of the Big Poppa Del Rogue UDS

Cool build.   Big Poppa = Sterling Ball (of Ernie Ball, Music Man fame). He got heavy into BBQ about 10 years ago now. I think drum smokers are great, but still use a WSM.

    business LLC vs. Inc

Don't rely on this, but I don't think you need an Inc. They cost more, require separate tax returns (CPA), and often real lawyers to do the formation and yearly upkeep. On the plus side, a real Inc. that follows corporate formalities can help shield personal liability. An Inc. would be more...

    new m&m's

They are like peanut M&Ms with a little zing. I liked them, but they aren't very hot.

    Plant Offer 0

Well, shoot. I've got over 250 plants going at my house and still had to order. You've got a few I don't have PLUS I love BOC - so the more the merrier! Thanks!

Do you like Pepper in your beer?

I put hot stuff on almost everything - but do not enjoy it in beer, ice cream or maybe cold cereal. While the spicey beer thing isn't for me, I enjoy eating spicey food while drinking cold brew.

    Hottoddy 2015 - 2016

They are Nubian goats. This is not my farm, I'm just associated with it (I help them out, they give me land). Last year, they milked them for a while and made goat cheese - but didn't really have enough goats to make it worthwhile. The moms had 17 babies this year, so they might be able...

    Hottoddy 2015 - 2016

This is the first 2016 post in this merged thread. Here are some of the baby plants a few weeks ago moving into the greenhouse.       This is the farm I where most of my plants will go this year again. Below are early season salad rows - soon to be tomato and pepper. This small farm sells about...

    7 pot primo mutants???

Fairly common. I don't count but get quite a few on random chinenses. Maybe 1 in 10 on avg. I don't pay much attention to them as they ultimately grow the same. I don't consider them mutants.

    "A Weber like never before."

As much as I like them, I cannot imagine a kamado-style grill (primo, green egg) being 10x better than a WSM. I've looked long and hard but never been able to justify upgrading, as the WSM does everything I need in the charcoal/wood category. Between that and my Weber Genesis gasser, it's all I...

    "A Weber like never before."

The rumor mill seems to think it's a Green Egg/Primo rival. Here's a post from one of the BBQ forums:   From a post on The BBQ Brethren:   I work here as a BBQ sales rep: www.thebbqshop.com Early last week our rep showed us the video run down of what Weber is announcing on April 6th. If you're...

    Maui purple ?

Agreed. Here are some going in my dehydrator. My understanding is they are an Annuum (similar to Thai varieties).

seeds Any tips, tricks, or hints for picking the best seedlings?

There's usually a runt ... but wait for some true leaves. I've had first sprouters languish while late comers put them to shame. If they both look good, I often try to figure out a way to keep 'em.   One thing I can't stand are runts. I used to baby them along, thinking they'll surely catch up...

Joyner's 2016 Pepper Party - Starting Late or maybe Right on Time!

Good job! Sometimes late starts are better than early starts - yield wise. I now generally wait until February for the chinenses and mid-March for the annuums.   Ps. Your Mystery Wines are some of my most robust at the moment. :)

Can I top and keep a Tomato Plant short and still produce?

I prune all my indeterminates heavily and they still produce like crazy. I'm sure they'd do better if I left them alone, but I don't have any 10 foot trellises! I also cleanup the bottoms, determinates too, but don't remove many "suckers". My goal is to get a good yield but not a huge mess come...

    breeding Cross-breeding

Without getting sciencey, you'll likely get different results. Many people have crossed peppers both ways, and get variations in color, shape and heat. The Katie and Lucy come to mind (Naga Viper x 7 Pot Jonah, and vice versa). I crossed a TSMB with a Fatalli both ways. One came out yellow, the...

Whats the verdict with coffee grounds ?

Be careful. Use sparingly, fully compost, or feed to worms first. If adding directly to soil, I would mix up a batch and test the pH. Too many coffee grounds can make the soil acidic. A few years ago, I added a fair amount to some of my 5 gallon pots and those plants did not thrive.

Best wishes! He has been quiet on here lately, which is unusual. AJ often talks of his ongoing health issues. Hoping for the best!
