organic I think I've found the best Organic Pesticide

Also looks promising and its "Organic" however...  I think it has the dreaded dihydrogen monoxide in it thus the warning.   Label says...   "Do not apply this product in any way that it will contact other persons or pets, either directly or through drift. Keep other persons out of the treated...

organic I think I've found the best Organic Pesticide

I can assure you this works FAST on aphids.  Found an few new colonies this morning where I hadn't sprayed anything yet this year and an hour later they were all little shriveled black dots.

organic I think I've found the best Organic Pesticide

Read ingredients, technically mineral oil may be considered inorganic but many home brew recipes call for it and use it as organic.  Close enough for me since I was considering Malathion at this point.

organic I think I've found the best Organic Pesticide

This year has been up and down with various critter attacks and the last few weeks I've seen an amazing increase in white flies.  Its a cloud you can't breath through when plants get disturbed.  Melon leaves as well as others have looked fine until I looked under them while picking cucumbers...

    Tallest pepper plant?

Tallest I've seen were down in Sonora MX hills and native Chiltepins they said were over 20 yrs old.  Don't know but they had bark and are at least 15' tall in places.  I have two starts from them and both are tall and thin now after a few months.  One is now almost 4' tall and has a few pods...

seeds How best to dry seeds for germinating ASAP?

I have a few pods already ripe of my next generation cross and since are season is so long I want to germinate them asap and try to get a harvest yet this year.  I've removed the seeds from 4 pods and cleaned them in H2o2 and now they are just sitting on the shelf.  Last try at this went into...

pests My first "Pest ID" question so be nice...

It was/is still just a really strange fungus that is mostly now in control.  Spraying with reagent grade H2O2 makes quick work of the outbreaks but what a time suck keeping up with it.

breeding Odd as HeXL cross varient

Out of my F1 native chiltepin / reaper crosses I ended up with 32 plants I put into the garden.  A dozen are producing fruit faster than I can use that look like this and are VERY hot.       I have two that are producing these pods and while fewer, they mature much quicker.  Beside it is a gold...

pests My first "Pest ID" question so be nice...

Have had mealy bugs on cacti before, this is not them by any means.  No red when it gets smeared and under the microscope they are not bugs.  Starting to think a fungus of some type.  Only on reapers and crosses with them so far.  80% H2O2 misting is showing results for a few days then it...

pests My first "Pest ID" question so be nice...

Well the good news is they are not while flies...  I've still got no clue how to eradicate "it" though.  Under 400x mag it looks much more like a fungus or something.  Never seen this here in Phoenix before and with our humidity near 10% I can't figure this out.  Fire?

pests My first "Pest ID" question so be nice...

White flies are common here because of our cotton grows but no adults flying around here.  I've searched each plant for some kind of adult and found nothing.  Neem oil has not helped and they are always clustered as if an egg group.  I may snip a stem off and bring it in under the microscope but...

pests My first "Pest ID" question so be nice...

Have this crap on my super hots and crosses only, rest of the garden is normal.  Any plant with these is hurting, whats the heck is it and what to do?  Edit...  They are always found on the stems of plants, never a leaf.

    My best sauce yet...

I think I'll experiment with lime juice on the next cook, it does sound better the vinegar.  I've liked the apple cider vinegar, and the sour mash when just cooling down really does give it a flavor boost.  It only made a few 8 oz bottles but they are also all in buddies hands already so I'm...

    My best sauce yet...

Made a new batch last night with all ingredients fresh picked from my garden.  The addition this time was roasting the Hatch Chiles prior and the addition of my hybrids which vastly improved on an already good recipe.  I always use whole peppers.   What do you guys think of the recipe and what...

    Repurposing a deli cupcake tray

Instead of the peat pellets I've started using straight garden soil but sift it to 1/4" minus.  I think it works better for transplanting.   Bottoms hold 1.375" of soil nicely and 2" of top room.

    Repurposing a deli cupcake tray

Wife recently bought 2 doz cupcakes from the grocery store for one of her classes.  She brought the leftovers home and the tray caught my interest.  Just started more seeds since I still have room in the garden and we have a very long season.  Looks like a perfect starter tray with more head...

Over fert'ing results on a 2 yr old

This is a pic of my two yr old Long Cayenne / Orange Habanero cross just taken.  Very nice tasting after roasting and the pods are about 5" long.  The plant is only 20 inches tall and I cut it back each year to stubs but the thing is so prolific its just crazy.  I fert it very strong until I see...

Typical summer shock just hit the garden

Everything was growing awesome and the temps suddenly spiked to 103 in the shade yesterday.  Tomato's are 5' tall with hundreds of fruits on them and suddenly wilting.  Peppers are loving it though and recovering nicely from our recent grasshopper swarm.  Sure wish I could raise the humidity on...
