    Is this BER?

It does look like BER damage, but it's kinda high up on the pod; BER would normally be around the midpoint or 3/4 of the way from where it is in that pic to the blossom end of the pod. I have had a bunch of that exact situation with pods this year - BER-looking damage that's more of a...

    pests Dear Mr Aphid

This reply just arrived: "Dear Mr. Lazienfat, Bring it. Soon your little ladybugs will go off to mate. Yes, they will kill some of us. Maybe even a lot of us. But not all of us. And we only need two to keep it going. The ladybugs will get bored, and they will want some action with each...

    pics micro-harvest: three pics

I believe you are probably referring to the "Red Mushroom" pepper in picture # 2? There are a few types of the mushroom pepper - yellow, red, etc. It's very cool looking, but the taste is a sour-y habanero taste, not nearly as good as any of the fragrant habs. To me, it is an ornamental.

food Mega's Chili Vodka Experimentation Blog

So me and Mrs. Mega decided to try making some chili vodkas and cordials this year. I will update this thread periodically with our progress or lack thereof. Naturally, the best way to get started with any vodka project is a big-a$$ bottle of Stoli. We took that big ‘ole jug of vodka and...

    pics micro-harvest: three pics

For some reason, I'm the only person I know who grows Mariachis. They're good! Here's some I tugged off the plant yesterday: Some red mushrooms. I was expecting these to taste better than they did. They don't. I would go as far as to call these "ornamentals" as opposed to "food" (L...

Car. red problem - please help diagnose

okay okay OKAY they're not Car. Reds!!! LOL I checked with Beth the friendly Peppermania lady yesterday, where I got these, and she said they were basically red habs she picked up at the market, exact cultivar unknown. They taste great, though, and they grow like weeds.

    Cowhorn... Cayenne... ?

I am growing those. Heat level has been inconsistent from pod to pod, but leaning toward the mild side. Also, I'd say 3/4 of the first batch pods on that plant developed Blossom End Rot (BER) which appears to be your plant's malady too. It was the worst case of BER of any plant in my garden...

Car. red problem - please help diagnose

Here are three pics of a caribbean red pod. Notice the odd discolored spots. I have these on pods on some of my pepper plants, but it's usually one spot per pod, not extensive like this. This is a new and unwelcome development. It does look a bit like stink bug grazing, but I haven't seen any...

food Sizzling hot shrimp in lemon wine cream sauce

SIZZLING HOT SHRIMP IN LEMON WINE CREAM SAUCE Here are some peppers we used to concoct this dish for dinner yesterday: from L to R: Fatali, Hottie (kind of a low-heat, larger orange hab hybrid), a wicked Carribean Red, 2 hot paper lanterns, 2 mariachi's (a Burpee-branded version of Santa Fe...

    Maggots in my peppers?!?!?

I feel your pain. Earlier in the season, my little garden was infested with pepper maggots. It was awful - my best plants. I researched all the available remedies, but concluded there was none. The flies deposit the eggs into the flesh of your pods earlier in the season, in what then looks...

health help me figure out what's wrong with my orange habs

Major addition to my previous post about this being sun scald. The coop extension people emailed a set of detailed pics of one of my pods to the Univ of Georgia and to Virginia Tech for analysis, and those two set of folks agreed: stink bugs. Which I haven't seen this summer but were at...

health help me figure out what's wrong with my orange habs

The cooperative extension folks are having difficulty figuring out what this one is about, and seem to think it's a worm/caterpillar thing. However, I took the opportunity to go googling and reading and really getting my head into it, and I think it is, in fact, run-of-the-mill sunscald, with a...

    Question: Devils Tounge and Fatalii

I think they are the same. It's hard to be EXACTLY sure because I grew what were called DT's last year, and Fataliis this year, and they seem to be exactly the same thing, but I can't do a side by side comparison.
