There is a heat alert this afternoon/early evening for his part of Kansas; high of 94F.  I’ve had a lot worse when I lived in Phoenix and also near Redding, CA - but those were a dry heat, as some say.   Busy today, now that I have the peppers and tomatoes planted, wife wants me to work on an...

    chinense mild Capsicum chinense peppers

Anyone have an opinion on Aji Margariteno in general or in comparison to the other peppers mentioned in the OP? I planted six seeds but none germinated this season.  I do have a Trinidad Perfume which I have grown in the past.  I also have a Tobago Seasoning.

Just got back from dropping off my nephew's dog at the vet to get him(the dog) fixed and get various shots. He is a red Australian Shepard. My few strawberries are not doing so well now after said dog decided to dig them up and then lie in the cool soil.    Take care and stay safe!

Yuk.  I am supposed to help my nephew move out this morning. At least we have a few good hours of weather.  Nephew has lived with us for the past four years.  We got him through high school.  Will miss having him around but he will only be a few miles away in the next town south of us.

    "Traditional" Caribbean pepper sauce

Looks wonderful. I made some several years ago and was planning on making it again later this year.   I am in no way from the Islands, but my understanding is that to be truly authentic, instead of cilantro, you would need to use Shado Beni (aka culantro, Mexican coriander, thorny coriander...

food-bev Portuguese food influence including Tempura

Thank you for the link.  Very informative. I was born in Japan (father was in the US military) and have lived there off and on during my lifetime, most recently 2008 - 2010.  I knew about the Portuguese influence on Tempura.  The article did not talk about the other important influence from the...

To all members who are in the Redding CA area; I hope you and your family are safe. I am about 10 miles east of Redding but my MIL's mobile home in north-west Redding had to be evacuated Thursday night. Spent the last two days getting people and animals to safer spaces.

    Hello from japan

Welcome. I lived in Japan (Yokohama) from 2008 - 2010.  I was a civilian working for the military.  I lived in a high-rise on the 38th floor with a small balcony.  I was not into growing peppers at that time so cannot give you any specific advice on growing peppers there.     Enjoy your time...

shopping Scored some store bought orange manzano

Over the summer the Sav-Mor in Corning, California had manzanos for $5/lb.  I bought 2 lbs. That Sav-Mor does cater to the local mexican population.  I did notice that the fine print on the small sticker on each pepper stated that they had been irradiated. Don't know if the seeds will grow but...

Same here - usually butter about 2/3rds of the time, if not that then bacon fat.  Never considered safflower oil but will use some next time I want a dark roux.

Parents think poop is funny right?

We do now.  My MIL lives with us, she is 91 and has dementia and is diabetic.  Relatives give her lots of sugar-free cookies and candies for Christmas and her birthday.  We have to lock away the cookies and candies and dole them out now. She has no impulse control and two years ago she ate all...
