All plants in the garden have fruit as we speak but the larger and heavier yields will come in later in the season unless we get blessed with a cooler july than normal.
Just up the road a bit (Prescott). We mulch heavy and use shade cloth over most of the garden. Last year we started using misters and the seemed to help some. When the temps climb into triple numbers about all we can do is damage control but it seem to always work out.

Peat and maybe some fine powdered clay. I like your idea of digging down a bit maybe even go down to the hard pan and build up from there heck you could turn the worst into the best with some work with the shovel. Gypsum on top of the hard pan will help break it up over time as well.

Shade cloth in the 60% range and heavy mulch. Our lack of humidity
is also helped with the mulch. We well every so often water the straw down. Our plants are watered with drip lines under the mulch. This works great for the chilies. The tomatoes on the other hand are much more picky.

A little oat meal, bone meal, even corn meal does good things for the roots and if you have some spare hair that works very well over a longer time frame.

Thanks for the reply AJ I am looking to wrap the southeast corner of our porch with a tarp the looks very much like yours. 14 mil type ripstop. Our temps are all over the place until May then it goes from hot to too hot. The upside is I am just looking to take some advantage of all the sunshine...
Good on you PCH - Good lookin sprouts and I even thought about bringing in my 7pot sprout to show its mother but they cant see can they? Remember to keep that jiffy pot stuff damp(from the bottom up) as close as those lights are the tops may dry out pretty fast.
