Hi Guys,
Been a while since I posted last. I've found small brown bugs in the stamen of the chili flowers. I'm not 100% but I don't believe these to be aphids because there are very few and far between and I can't seem to find any anywhere on the leaves of stems of the plants.
Would they be...
That's a fantastic idea AJ. Never though about using the roots as "composte". Makes a lot of sense. Minor point though. It's -13'C outside. I would have to keep the container inside which actually isn't a problem as I could get sever smaller ones.
Thanks AJ. that is a great answer. Cheers.
Well this year was my second year, and my first successful one. I had about 15 plants, gave away about 5. Killed off 6 and am now left with 4 to overwinter. I'll be growing perhaps another 5-7 next year as 15 was just far too many in my 62m2 place.
I've just killed off my unproductive plants and plants that I didn't like and am wondering what to do about the old soil in the pots. I'm wondering is it worth pulling out the roots and filtering out the soil and then re-using it? Money isn't the issue, I just don't want to be a waster and waste...
You can just get some calcium supplements from the chemists or supermarket. that'll do the job. I always grind extra calcium into my soil this way. It really helps. I do about 6 tablets per 1.5 litres of soil. works well, never had any leaf problems after starting that.
Update. Seems like the swift action of killing off one of the plants has saved the rest. been almost a week with no further signs of activity on any of the other plants. phew.
Thanks AJ.
Bugger that for a laugh. I live in a small apartment, isolation is not possible. besides I've already trashed the plant. If I had a garden of something then perhaps I would give that a try.
so not a good thing then. As they are only on one plant at the moment I may just kill it off rather than bugger about with pesticides, specially as the end of the season is near.
So far I've had a very productive year. no problems at all. over 400 chilies off 10 plants indoors and I'm happy to say the least. However a few days ago I noticed some webs on one of the plants. I thought nothing of it thinking it was just spiders. But today I took a closer look and it turns...
fyi, they won't get better, the crystals may disappear however they will still be scared. New growth however, if you change your watering routine will not be affected. It's nothing to worry about aside from being unsightly.
I've just brought some seeds myself as I'm curious and well it's only £2 for 10 so it's not that expensive. I know it's also late in the season to be germinating but I grow all through the year indoors anyway so it's not that much of a problem.
I use calcium supplements and grind them up then add them to the soil mixture. It really helps flatten the leaves. It's the more expensive method but doesn't take any time to prepare.
I would say it's hard to get them to produce a lot of fruits under cfls, they really much prefer warm light, ie sunlight or bulbs producing light towards the red end of the spectrum.
