Different pepper names?? Different variant?? Same pepper??

Sorry, my answer was too short. It is a fairly complex topic, and it needs a more pages to get all the details right. The full potential of the cross is seen in F2, where you can get all (viable) combinations. Once you start selecting (and thereby deselecting), you will narrow down the...

Different pepper names?? Different variant?? Same pepper??

No. You can only see the stableness of a chili by comparing the offspring of it, if the offspring plants are different (e.g. different looking chilies), then the parent is not stable. All chilies on a single plant will be from the same DNA, wherefore differences will be due to other reasons...

breeding Maybe cross pollination can change pods??

Agree to this approach. A DNA test of the pod tissue would be the final proof. Testing is so much better than speculation.   Have done lots of intentional crosses, and none of the crossed pods have turned any different than the normal range of the mother plant. A chili plant can have quite a...

chinense Aji Painapple (Aji Pineapple X Butch T yellow scorpion)

Congrats. Looks good.   Hope you have more success with F2 than I had with Aji Lemon Drop X Choclate Habanero. I also had very few seeds per pod in F1, and most of those did not sprout. Further most of the seeds that did sprout, did either not set flowers, or if they did flower then there would...

    HAJ's cross section

Hmm, that was a good nap  :)   Well, the end of last year was pretty boring. But here is the update on crosses:   Aji Lemon Drop X HAJ13B long white variety. Cross named HAJ16i. Have just harvested and sown F1 seeds. Aim is to see if I can get a chili that ripens from dark green to white/pale...

Thanx Trident. So far my PdN cross, HAJ13D is the best: purple and orange chilies, with hab. heat and good taste. Plant looks beautiful too. The selected F3 plant is (currently) aphid free. More pictures soon.        Thank you. Good luck in you new (old) location !

    HAJ's cross section

Thanx az1000. I find it very interesting to see what happens when 2 varieties are crossed, and to see the amount variety the cross has.

Summer is here ... wait ... ok, now it's gone again. Back to 15 C, 15 m/s and rain  :tear:   Well, luckily most of the chilies are indoors.   As promised, some pod-porn on the Aji Benito X Blondie, a.k.a. HAJ13B cross. These are all F3s.   First, the long white phenotype. Selected for next...

breeding Question for the experts on making hybrids?

It is possible to cross baccatum with chinense. Problem starts when you get to F2. The seed count is very low, and not many of these seeds will sprout, and of those that sprout, not many will produce fruit  :tear:   I've crossed Lemon Drop with Chocolate Hab., and have an excellent F1 that is...

    plant genetics question

Somebody posted a really good, detailed description/link a few years back. I'll see if I can locate it.   Edit: Ok here we go: http://thehotpepper.com/topic/40168-color-geneticsbreeding-colors/?hl=genes#entry846134

    plant genetics question

Getting complicated here    First, since brown is recessive, it should not be possible to revert to red, unless crossed.   Second, the only candidate should be the Red Caribbean, since both Mustard and Chocolate hab. has the brown trait.    This is my guess. But who knows what the...

    plant genetics question

Yes red, provided that both are stable varieties.   The 2 traits in play: Brown is recessive to not-brown (from yellow parent). Yellow is recessive to red (from brown parent).   Have tried it with a cross of Chocolate Hab. and Lemon Drop.

    breeding Cross Question..

Traits of the F1 will be the dominant traits of the parents. Hypothetically it is possible that all traits come from one parent. It is not random. Only traits of F2+ are random.   Choosing the best pod makes no difference, except for seed count. The genetics will be the same. Choosing the...

    HAJ's cross section

Podding up. My first 7 pot Bubblegum   I was hoping that backcrossing the Aji Lemondrop X Chocolate Habanero F1 aka HAJ13A with Aji Lemondrop would produce some more seeds. Alas, that was not to be. 2 flowers backcrossed, for a total of 6 seeds looking viable. This far 2 surfaced ...   There...
