contest 2017 Inaugural Southern Hemisphere Growdown Throwdown Aji Amarillo

Okay, here's a pic:

It's definitely growing; I measured it three days ago and it was 30mm, today it is 38. So its doing its thing.
Also got some weird growth coming out of the leaf axles:

At first I thought it was aphids, but nope, its growth. Anyone else having similar?
Five weeks old today!

And thanks Devv and Guru, its good to have some outsiders drop by!

Going strong TBG.

Can't remember if I had growth like that, but have noticed nodules at the bottom of the stems (kind of like tomato plants throwing extra roots).

Check yours for something similar in this area in the next couple of weeks↓↓

Those are root nodules - I see them on my plants all the time.
When I transplant, I try to bury them in the dirt so they will
grow out new roots. In the pic of the growth at the base of
the leaves in TBG's post, just good old fashioned branching!
I'd say those are healthy 5 week old plants!

At the risk of hijacking your way cool thread, how about
a sneak preview of what's coming for you?

These are 4 month old plants in #2 (6-7 liter) cans - hooks
on April 9:

One of the pods on the above plants:

One of my Aji Amarillos in about a 75 liter container,
hooks around Jan. 12, so about 7 months along:

Thanks for letting me play  ;)

Good luck going forward, mates!

Wow. Four months and they that tall. Don't think my tent's gonna be big enough.

Jul-Aug-Sep-Oct-Nov ... Should be ok for frost i guess, but I think I'm gonna hit some problems in month three with growth rate to date.

Might need to top off the plant and slow things down a bit.

lol Paul is that your strain? I thought you were selecting shorter bushier amarillos?
 Those are the shorter strain!  The Ajis in the 20-gallon
containers are about 4' x 4' and very bushy as you can see
in the last pic above.  The AA growth habit is tall and spreading,
especially after they fork. The branches definitely need support
when they load up with pods. They grow more like a vine, it seems
like. I have had them reach 7 feet in height. The 4-month old
plants aren't branching out much because of the small
containers, I think.

Can't wait to see how your Southern Growdown turns out.  Will provide
us in the Northern Hemi with some good winter entertainment!

Looking good Karoo

Let us know if your stems go purple too.

You are 100% right there on the later months, but here winter starts as soon as summers begun unfortunately.

That being said the new setup I was still throwing some pods into June and the overwinter ones had to be cut back a second time as they were all trying to flower.

Looking forward to getting the plants out into the sun ... big plans for the King Amarillo Overlord Supreme that gets chosen for first harvest.

That's if the bugs don't get me before then :hmm:

Hi guys good to see some nice plants. I totally forgot I even signed up to this lol.

I have seeds and plan on starting in September, sounds late but last year I started some seeds in October and still got fruit setting in those plants in January. I hate pissing around with indoor setups so prefer to put my seeds on a heat mat at my shed window letting them germ in full sun.. they grow like weeds and there's no hardening off period.

Only problem is I got the seeds off a mate so I'll have to make sure where he got them from is a decent source.
