2018 Southern Hemisphere Grow Down-Under

Hi All

It's getting to that stage where we need to plan the next growdown.

I can supply the Aji Cito seeds, but will need to get them posted pretty quick so get voting

I also have no issue if we go with something else, but will need to order in good time as it takes ages to get to NZ

If you vote 'Something Else' post a suggested variety

Poll closes Friday 27th April

General Rules

That is good to know. I have never tried a ferment, other than sauerkraut before so might give it a go one day.

Devastating news on the fruit fly front today. I went out this morning and regardless of how much success I have been having with sprays and traps, every where I looked I found pods with stings on them on all of my plants that are outside of the fruit fly net.

Going by the chatter lately on the local chilli head facebook pages, everyone from the NSW south coast up to the top of Queensland has been getting hit badly in the last few weeks. I thought I had them under control with the sprays but I might have just been lucky. Until now that is.

Another 26 pods for 42g, with only 5 of them not stung.

Total of 445 pods for 1035g

Another 23 for 46g. Only 6 that have been definitely been stung, but I don't fully trust the rest. I will give them a few days to see if any stings show up before I eat them.

468 for 1081g.

Slowly creeping up on you Jacques

Here's today's pick, and I photo of all the ones I've stored - doesn't count the ones I've given away already. Plan is to combine these with chipotle and make a sauce. My plant has been trimmed a couple of times, they've reached the 2.2m or so roof of the greenhouse. I have to trim the jalapenos every few weeks.

Total cito's standing at 135 peppers weighing 533 grams. Not going to win this, but will end up with an interesting plant  :) I have a couple of relatively big peppers, one's in the middle of the photo.

Looks like you will have a strong endgame in your GH.

Fortunately it looks like I'll have some hot Autumn weather to look forward to.

Good growing weather there. We have been having cooler weather, mainly low 20's daytime and 11, 12, 13 at night, with the occasional warm day (todays forecast is for 33). A fair bit of rain over the last 3 weeks or so, haven't touched the hose, so the season isn't over yet.

Nice pick this morning.

Great to see pods still rolling in still, folks.

Sorry to see your grow season beginning
to wind down.

Picked on two different days, but I didn't photo them 'till this morning.

50 pods for 99g.

Still hanging in there, but feeling like I am getting my a$$ kicked at the moment.

Good harvest Jacques.

I love this cito plant.

Looking forward to next season now as temps starting to drop pretty quick. Might have three weeks left at most.

Two weigh ins 72g and 45g
Total - 437g

Learnt a bit this year again so should be more competitive next season.

Keep on growing gang

Just wow!

I blew it, I should have put mine in a larger pot during the cooler weather..

Perhaps the next round I'll get the off season grow to do better..

All about container size and sunshine.
Temperature dropping fast around here, but frost only at the end of May.
