2019 - The Farm

Well, it's finally time to start. Again. :)

Finished taking inventory of seeds today, and started the 2019 grow list. Since the 24x96' isolation high tunnel is done, I'll be growing a crazy long list this year, as we'll be growing for 2020 seed inventory. With the soil mix equipment, it should be a lot less work on my back this winter! (Even more so if I get the indoor grow areas plumbed and set up on drip irrigation, still not sure I got the budget for that yet tho)

Some of the seeds I'll be pulling from are damn near 10 years old now, so I expect many of these to eventually get crossed off with 0 germination. Everything I have ever saved or traded is getting planted, though. There's 203 on the list right now, many duplicates though where seeds were sourced from more than one person/vendor.

The grow room at home is getting a makeover, going to be "going vertical" to get some space back. More on that in a few days...

This list is not complete yet, I will be adding more after I hear back from a few folks I PM'd.

Most of the lettuce is for taste and local adaptability trials, small little plots. We'll be succession planting out most crops, small qty for market, so "big list, not so big qty."

Some of the stock (various herbs, seedless watermelons) is non-organic seed stock and will either be grown either in the north transitional field or in pots.

570 fruit trees are also coming sometime early spring, those will go in to the dirt as soon as it can be worked after freeze. We'll plant those and forget about them for a few years.. just mow around them. All the big work starts in a few years with those.  Shouldn't need to irrigate them unless we get a big dry spell, and/or until they start producing.

Trent with short hair and now shaved, what a change man.
Seems you're doing some changes around there and congratulations for that. CBD is doing wonders, judging by the things we hear about it. It's a turn into the right direction. Just don't forget about chilis :)

This article part really made ma laugh...
“I was nervous before our national television interview,” Lawrence adds with a chuckle, “I smoked a little hemp to calm down.”
... with your image from before, there's just some Creedence music missing in the background and you could be in big lebowski :)

Good luck with all the crops.

Jami and Julie have been harvesting seeds from seed peppers for last week and a half, taking photographs of each type for the website, etc.

Quantity is going to be very limited as it got hot in the greenhouse this summer, and caused a LOT of flower drop. Hopefully they are at least moderately well isolated, and run true, though.

Seeds are currently drying slowly on wax paper on racks, once they are done and I germ test we'll add them to the website in time for winter grows to start.

150ish varieties, certified organic.

excited to see what you'll have this year.  i grew lots with success from your seeds last year.

Wha-wha-what?!? They tested meaning they are all boys?!?

That's 20k down the drain?!?

LOL, no the fem rate was fine. The problem wasn't with the gender, the problem was there wasn't any CBD at all in the genetics that Oregon company shipped us.... they were.. the other kind of plant.

And 20K?

Try over 2 million dollars in losses.

Between seeds, starter trays, transplanting costs, sheet pots, 50+ cubic yards of potting soil (270 of the plants were in 5, 7, 10, and 15 gallon pots), miles of drip tape, miles of plastic mulch rolls, weeks of labor transplanting, potting up, and pruning 10,000 cannabis plants.. several full time employees all summer to help manage it all, then there's the indoor grow where I ran 10 tons of AC and a shitload of lights for 4 months, to end up having to cut every plant in the room. Plus the lost revenue, a 17% CBD crop, 10,000 plants, would have been 12,000 pounds harvested, 700k minimum revenue (smokable flower sales would have brought in a lot more).. instead I end up having to burn it all.

I don't know if I can make it through the winter, now, and still manage to make mortgage payments. Might end up losing my damn house and vehicles over this.

im so sorry to see this.  I cant understand how the laws can be so stupid and crushing people who are trying to earn a living.

That's awful Trent. So sorry.

I suspect there will be a lot of this going on with the roll-out of industrial hemp. It sounds like this supplier is a total fraud. Probably no recourse even on seed cost from the knuckleheads. I imagine all they have to say is "oops, sorry about that", reorganize and do it again next year. Can the feds deal with them appropriately for shipping high T seeds interstate?

Out of curiosity, how far off were the delta 9 and CBD levels?

Uhh, they were *all* the way off man.. 30% of the individual tests (I sent in 15 samples) came back at 2.5% THC, 0 CBD, in week 3 of flower. 50% of the tests were varying ratios of 3:1 through 1:3 CBD:THC, with most around 1:1, and only 20% showed minor amounts of CBD with no THC.

It's pretty bad dude.

ETA: As far as feds, no idea, that's above my pay grade.

Basically, not worth a shit for anything. Unreal. I think the WW2 Indiana hemp fields still in existence in the 70's had higher THC than that.

Well, keep in mind week 3 of flower at 2.5% would put the finished crop somewhere in the 15-20% THC range. This is a 9-12 week finishing strain it was crossed with. We aren't even at the solstice yet, so they aren't in full swing.

We'll have a few plants re-tested just to see where they end up prior to the scheduled Sept 25 burn date. I need to document it for any legal action that may happen.

Also had some feral victory hemp tested recently, that we'd found. It's 100% CBDA with no trace of THCA at maturity. Holy grail of CBD production, man. I'll have enough seeds collected to plant a few acres of it next year.

That’s great to hear that you have a strain that will work, and the seed to go along with it!

Is an indoor winter grow economically viable?
