Just finished viewing a little something on CNN's website about the 25 best things about Poland. The article said it was to celebrate 25 years since Poland's independence, which isn't entirely accurate, as Poland got back its independence because of the Treaty of Versailles in the aftermath of World War I (it was previously partitioned by several countries), and as anyone living in Poland or of Polish descent from recent parent immigrants will attest, World War II does not count as us losing our independence. The article should've clarified that it was the 25th anniversary of Poland kicking Communism to the curb, but still it was a good list, and brought back a lot of good memories, as I do have quite a lot of relatives there, visited there quite a few times (both before and after the fall of Communism), and even lived there for 6 months while studying a semester in college.
