AJs 2012 Season - A Pictorial Discussion

I am getting a one day jump on last season...today is my 2012 season start...

The Germinator has been cleaned, I am using new trays for seed starting and Hoffman's Seed Starting Mix as my grow media...

If any of you decide to use Hoffman's Seed Starting Mix, be patient, it takes as much as 24 hours pre-soak to get this light weight mix totally wet...I have said it before and I will say it again...this is the cleanest seed starting mix I have ever used....clean and light weight means better root growth IMO..

All circuits and systems are a go on the germinator...am stabilizing the temperature for the next 24 hours...as you can see, the upper box is about 93F and the lower box is 85F...I have to vent the top to let both chambers reach the same temperature...

something tells me this is going to be another hot summer....close to record heat again...so the season will go as mother wants it to...I am learning each year how to change my grow techniques and am adapting to North Texas...

hope you folks enjoy this thread...if anyone has any questions or comments, they are welcome...

plants look pretty pitiful right now....oh, they are healthy, just highly stressed in this 108F degree heat we are having....typical hot north Texas summer...

will take some photos or a video this morning and post...

thanks for your interest....

the cool down usually happens the week after labor day...2nd or 3rd week in September...that's when the plants really load up with buds/flowers...but it takes about a week or so for pollen production and another few days until the pollen is fertile...so massive pod set won't occur until the last of September or so....which means early frost's or freeze's are not what I want...I lost probably 60 lb last year to an early cold snap....If I can make it to December 1st without cold weather, I should have a pretty decent major harvest....so, if anyone wants any fresh pods, they will be available then...will post an ad when they get close...

***just re-read that last three phrases...it's a shameless plug... ***

yes, a lot....low to mid 90's for a week....then probably back to the oven...

Um. where are those pics you mentioned like a week ago, LOL? Boo to non-pictorial updates!

OK, OK...here are a couple of pics...don't have time to comment on each one right now...I will come back later and edit the post saying what the plants are...I will say that if you notice, some of my plants have a "bleached" look to them...I don't understand it...for instance, the first and second pictures are on the same fertigation line and each get the same treatment of everything...they are on 1 gph drippers that are pressure compensated so the last dripper on the puts out the same as the first dripper on the run...

Looks great AJ, i also have some plants that are bleached looking too. I think its the heat and overwatering on my side. I have 1GPH drip emitters that run for 30 mins every morning. Maybe i need to cut it to 10 mins ...?

@armac...they are in pretty bad condition now but if I can just keep them in this shape growing, I will have a pretty decent crop at the end of the year...may even get some pod set this week...I think the forecase is in the 90s all week with the lows in the low 70s...blessed break from the oven, even if it is only gonna be a week or 10 days...

@ pepperjam...i bet you they are scorpions....

@ Bodeen....thank you...I have worked on this system for about 5 years....still got some improvements to make...

Really makes me think of too much nitrogen, or simply not enough other stuff to balance it out. But I would imagine you're watching that....

understand G...but...why are the plants on the same fertigation run that get the same stuff not effected...both are scorpion varieties....very puzzling...I have had this scorpion seedstock for several years now and these always look like they are hungry for something....am really wondering if some kind of genetic mutation has these plants leaning towards a varigated look...

My situation is a little different...I have a couple of Congo Black plants...one is gorgeous, dark green...huge, and hasn't stopped producing. The other is yellowed pretty bad like it's hungry for Ca or Mg...but mine are in the ground, and that presents a whole different set of issues. Regardless...your plants are looking good to me.

Hey...how much rain did you get today?

We got 2.5" Tuesday night into Wed. morning, and 4" from 2pm to 10 pm today!

AJ I have to finally ask since it has been in my head for a while. Do you prune the bottom leaves and branches to achieve such height?
