Right on! nothing like a nice cool swim in the morning. Thats pretty awesome a dream come true for a lot of people on this forum. Pretty great that you achieved it. Also your control panel is pretty crazy looking haha. I bet you could sell some on the market place right here as well.
if most of the growers on here had as much time as I do now, I have no doubt they could achieve the same...I piddle all day long and think about how I can make my gardening easier on myself...figure the easier it is, the more plants I can successfully grow...I plan on posting an ad in the market place when the pods are almost ready...
Looking great AJ, glad to see things have turned around for you. Sorry to hear about your tom's though. I really like the addition of the pool. That retired thing seems to be treating you well. I'm happy for you my friend.
Thanks Patrick...I still am about a month behind compared to last year from looking at photos/videos I took this time last year...it sure as heck won't be may before all my plants are transplanted next year...selling seedlings at the first monday events took several days away from me transplanting...truthfully, the pool was the wifes idea...she has wanted one for 10 years...and yes, retirement seems to be going well for me...I am very laid back all the time now not having to worry/think about work...
That is awesome AJ, Thanks for the pic, I've been thinking of doing something like that on my overhead sprinklers. My water pressure isnt strong enough for both so I have to switch it manually.
Kevin
Thanks again Kevin...this is the first year I have been able to leave the plants for any period of time and not have to get someone to water them for me...water pressure is the reason I had to put them on timers that are staggered where no two are on at the same time...this irrigation project has grown into a monster...after it is finished, the setup will be an automatic fertigation system....
damn it Aj!!! im envious but more intrigued. what signs lead you to believe your trinidad sorpions where magnesium hungry? the section top near your pool where theyre is three rows of orange habs and others are you able to get to all the plants like walking out theyre and giving the peroxide to the one u refered to. it just seems tight in theyre. im not knocking your ste up i think it look sfantastic.just curious if you even really need to get at them really at all with your sweet sweet setup until harvest time? i like the flag too i found one in a boat hous eio was living in off an island. and have had it since when iwa svisitning my brother he freaked when he saw it saying get it out of house cuz he has vlack friends ahh whatever. but the magnesium question id like to hear what you gotta dsay for sure and growing advice im all ears! great stuff btw!
thanks nate....there is something genetic going on with my scorpions...there are definitely two strains of plants, both scorpions...one set is very green and lush, the other set looks like they have varigated leaves...yellow and green...this is the way it has been since I have been growing these scorpions (3 years)...I have found that giving them epsom salt will reduce the varigation but not eliminate it completely...funny thing is, if I remember correctly, the plants that look varigated produce really nice "tailed" pods....the plants by the pool are on 21" centers...if I am careful, I can walk between the rows and "brush" by the plants right now...by the end of season, I may not be able to without breaking limbs...time will tell...with the way I designed the irrigation system at 21" centers, I am locked in on how many plants I can put there...there are approximately 160 plants on that end of the raised area...
as far as growing advice goes...the first thing I learned a few years ago was you have to listen to what the plants are telling you...pretty simple actually, like...if they wilt they want water, if they have pale or yellowing tops, they need magnesium, if the leaves are curling I may be watering too much...that is the main reason I am going with the 1 gph drippers so I can really know how much water/food I am giving the plants...
Awesome setup. That's a boatload of pots! Love it, and love the yard itself even more!
I gave up on my tomatoes too. Lost patience with trying to save the stupid things.
thanks napalm...I have been running between 250 and 350 plants each year for the past 4 years...I entertained the thought and set a goal of 400 this year and plain got tired of transplanting at 358...I have room against the back fence for another 34 plants and against the side fence for another 12 or so...that puts me right at 400 which will max me out and I am definitely going to try for 400 next year...
I can grow peppers but have had problems with the tomatos because of lack of care and not paying attention to the signs of blight and/or pests...of course I have broken the rule about not growing tomatos in the same ground year after year which is what I am doing...I am going to empty the bed of all the soil after this season is over, ...commit chemical warfare on the bed and put new soil in next year...that takes a lot of soil...a little over 4 yards
..
AJ I salute you sir, I watched with my jaw wide open and amazed.
thanks Joey...I have learned most of what I know about pepper growing right here on this forum...and the thousands of pages of literature I have read...
