Well, that's what happens when you haul 55g barrels of Pure Evil in your pickup!

:hell:

As if it weren't hot enough in E. Washington already.

SSSShhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

but yea, 2 weeks ago I drove by a roadside brush fire.  Thinking- "this is the middle of May and we already have brush fires???"  this summer is going to be very interesting, and probably not in a good way.

Ouch Salsalady.

Having seen a car fire (not mine) at least once in my life, you have my sympathies.

Ironically, I just spent most of the day at the Service center at our Honda Dealership on a recall part  replacement. In the process of fixing that, the mechanics found out that I apparently have a leak in my power steering-and that the power steering reservoir was almost empty of fluid. It also apparently was either spraying oil on the engine, or steering fluid onto the engine-I am not sure which. He advised that I get this fixed very soon-at a small cost of around $2700 dollars or so., and then some. I asked if there was a risk of fire because of this problem, and the guy said yes-since you are essentially putting flammable liquid onto a hot engine. And no check engine lights came on either. Apparently this may not happen with this situation. -_-

Suffice it to say, I'm going to have to borrow my mom's car for a while until I can get it into my mechanic's shop for an evaluation.

Key~  I feel you on that also.  I went to my Dad's place to work on a few things for 3 days, ended up with the odyssey in the shop for a tranny rebuild.  11 days later...I'm finally heading home on Thursday.  FWIW- Honda dealership quoted $5500 for the tranny.  I know a guy who knows a guy....did it for $2500.

After today, I'm kinda freaked out driving anything thinking anything could go wrong (on today's later trip to town).  I know it's just a reaction.  But to Key, take what they say with a grain of salt and look at what they are talking about.  "Fully Involved" is not something you want to hear...

We owe a couple fire extinguishers to the neighbors who helped us, and there'll be a few more in vehicles.

Fully insured I'd guess...
(Too valuable to drive for 2yrs.Didn't want to risk someone bumping into it in a parking lot etc.Like my friend who had a vintage Vet.early 50's model, only drove it on special occasions...).

Claim-

Insured for -

Solid gold stearing wheel with diamond chips as a gripping surface.
Hope Diamond as a knob for the Nitrous Oxcide injector.

State of the art sound system

Onboard Computer system, not just to run the truck-online all the time server...

Unicorn hide leather seats

Radar , GPS , Phone and sonar systems, solar powered electronics.
Almost forgot the 8 track tape player...AND Am radio and CB.

Bullet proof and tinted everything.

Don't forget the "easy rider" gun rack.

Gazillion $'s worth of (Bondo) Paint and Chrome.

Bed was full of Antiques (most antiques are some ones junk from 100+ yrs. ago.YOU WERE heading home from the Dump,NOT going there...).

Glad you guys didn't get hurt.
Should have gotten a video of you making Smores over the flames though.

Well, the State'r didn't ask about insurance on the vehicle that hadn't been on the road for 2 years.  He did scold me for having 2 year expired tabs, but didn't issue a ticket.  TowTruck driver....was paid by CC.  We'll take the tow receipt and talk to our  insurance agent...

....yea...we'll get right on that Monday.

For the s'Mores.....I'll take my carcinogens from the smoker and hickory chips...not roasting a weenie over smouldering plastic.  But I did think about that!  Like- day-um!...a person'd need a 20' hot dog fork for that.

and thanks for the thoughts, SM~

Hope they found all the melted gold on the street along with the diomonds.

I figured JUST the heat from several feet away would have made some Smores.
No fumes involved. LOL

Glad you guys did what you did and are OK.

Sorry I don't have a truck to give you a DEAL on at this time.

I got a bridge though ... :)

If you were in Ca.,I am pretty sure no tags voids coverage.

They/Cops WOULD have started their cash register ringing the SECOND they saw an old tagged VE HICKLE.

Maybe do a Salsa Lady , Fire sale , Charity thing to replace at least the cost of the Hope Diamond, gold steering wheel etc.
Hate seeing you lost the 8 Track though.

Glad it was a junker that fried rather than an everyday vehicle you depend on day to day.
Nothing you would still be paying for or whatever.

It could have been nasty, nobody got hurt, nothing else burned.
Fire didn't burn anything either other than the truck.
A fire here a few years back was traced to a couple campers.
They got taken into Court and have to pay big $ forever.

Side note, kinda cool the cops knew it didn't have tags and cut you slack.
Sounds like they had a heart.

I can send you some Bondo if ya need it. :)

Glad your ok SL.  I feel your pain.  I had a Chrysler Sebring that very quickly overheated in the middle of no where out on the range roads of a military base.  The oil cap blew off and sprayed oil all over the engine.  This ignited of course.  Then someone in a humvee pulls up to help.  I had already popped the hood, but not raised it.  I was expecting that he was going to just spray the fire extinguisher into the gap.  Nope he raised the hood up.  Gave the fire air, and it burst into an inferno.  His fire extinguisher gave one little poof and ran out.  Obviously not charged.  In the end it looked just like yours.  Only difference is the gas tank did not blow.  I think I got $300 and a free tow from the junk yard for it.

thanks for the thoughts, everyone, it's appreciated.  We all had a bit of restless sleep, but today is a bright day.  Gonna make some salsa and get my head back into the electrical work for this week.

I will likely get a second opinion on my car. I generally don't get most regular work done at Honda (I have a mechanic I have gone to for years,) but the recalls I let Honda do. and if necessary perhaps other Honda specific things that only they can do perhaps.

For now, its just sitting in my driveway. On the bright side, I get to drive a newer car for a while. backup camera...ect.
