Anyone know what this garden tool is?

Picked this up at my parents house as we are cleaning it out to sell the house.
It is obviously for digging of some sort but I am not sure what.
Anyone know?

Almost looks like it's designed for hand tilling/cultivating. Pretty neat!

After a second look and a little more pondering..... With the scalloped, beveled edge, it looks like it was made for cutting roots.

Jamison, The handle is exactly like a shovel handle.

I know I would use it to break up clay soil. So yeah basically a hand till. Now days we have claws for that. I would save that and maybe hang it up some where as a decoration/conversation piece. Nice find!

I believe it's used for weeding. I have one that looks similar, but it's a flat-head instead of the point - interesting because while using mine I found myself wishing it had a point/nose on it so I could better cull the weeds in between desirable plants.

i agree with TOAW- looks like a variant on a stirrup hoe. good for weeding.

They are also called a Dutch hoe, and I don't mean the ones in the red light district of Amsterdam.

I was thinking a Dutch hoe as well as they are similar although the ones I have seen are not pointed. I'm Dutch but we came to America over 350 years ago so I'm a little out of the loop so to speak. lol

I think its the original handle as well. The tool end is just rusty from oxidation. There is no name on it that I could see.

Yep, looks very similar to the loop hoes I have....They are wonderful for slaying weeds....especially tumbleweeds!!

Your family beat my maternal family by a few decades. They came via Holland with Wm Penn.

Wow, A few of us here with Dutch Immigrant Family from way way back.
My Mom's Dad traced his side of the family back to Pennsylvania in 1621....then the paper trail ended.
