Anyone play harmonica?

Hey,so as the title says, anyone here play harmonica?
I just got a cheap harmonica from a friend today, and I'm now going to start learning,so just wondering, anyone here play some harmonica and have some experience in this cool instrument?

Yes. Very poorly I may add. Havent played in a while but there was a couple years where I kept one in the ol pocket. Now you have me wanting to go dig them out. Guess im going to go look for them.

Sounds cool Sic,I'm just waiting to be payed for my holiday job so I can buy myself a book to teach myself to play,I realy want to go into the blues direction with this, great instrument :P

Used to play.
Loved the Honer Bleus Harp in E best.
I had a Leather case I made that carried my Blues Harps.
I had them all and I still have my Chromatic.

I wasted a lot of harps soaking them in water before I played them.
Made them sound SOOO GREAT.
Bending the noters was VERY cool sounding on a soaked up harp.
BUT it eventually messed up the reeds.

John Mayal got me into the harp.
Then I got into the older stuff.
My lungs and lips fail me now, can't play like I used to.

IF anyone reading this remembers the Grand Canyon ,Shit house Blues, get in touch with me.
Jammin with me at Yavapi Lodge.
SPAGETTI. LOL
If you want to learn to bend the notes, think about sucking Spagetti.
Lips and togue thing-just sucking air through the reed like that bends it...

Long time ago,GREAT times playing with you.

If nothinh else ya gotta love the Blues brothers tunes in the movie. LOL

Someone stole Dragon Magic,my harps in the mid 70's(a home made leather case I had a dragon on that held my harps - A B,C,E,G.and F)
I like E best for the blues, easier to bend the reeds and F is close to my favorite too.
Actually a toss up,I love E and F.

Don't like anything but the Blues harp.

Other harps just don't have the sound.
Back then blues harps were $5.00.
I can't find any blues harps these days.
That sound the same.
Mine have been too many miles....
Dead notes etc.
Chromatic too.
Many moons ago,I used to put my neice to sleep playing her the blues as a bedtime lulaby.
Damn I'm getting old...

More reason to get back to my Beloved Blues harps!
Just playin the blues....Makes ya feel good!

Sounds like we got some pro's here! I just got a Bee harp from a friend the other day, cost like R40,which is like I think $3,its a cheap one made of plastic and aluminium, but at least I can start out, hoping to buy a proper one soon :P

ALWAYS wanted to play one and still do! just dont where to begin myself. There is a music store that has numerous harps just dont know which to get or how to start . Always liked John Popper from Blues Traveler and really into the blues.

I've been playing the harp for over 35 years !!! Blues blowing summanabitch!!!!!!!!!!! Lee Oskar,And Honner blues harps, old school shure green bullet mic have played with Melvin Taylor, Marcia Ball, even got to blow for the late Great B B KING!!!!! :) love the Harp lots of fun to play and can take it anywhere!!
Try the saints come marching in!! Very easy to learn and you can blues it up once you get more proficient.
I started with a C I play a diatonic harp not chromatic diatonic is for blues so make sure to purchase correctly to learn the type of harp playing your interested in. :) C is very easy to bend and never soak a wooden harp in water expands the wood kills reeds I clean mine with alcohol and Q tips

Yup,never soak a harp - UNLESS you want to hear that sound only a wood soaked up one puts out.
Just plan on Always soaking it from then on AND having ALL the nails fall out and reeds go dead from abuse pretty fast. LOL

But they used to only be $5.00.
The time they lasted and the sweet notes they put out before they bit the dust was great.

Just gotta have a wood harp anyway.Plastic ones just don't have the sound.

I guess it might be like my Albums and Reel to reel tapes,to me they sound a lot better than Cd's or whatever.
BUT a LOT of my albums were only played to put on my reel to reel.
I have 35yr. old albums that were played MAYBE 3 times.
I also have a turntable for the older stuff that plugs into my computer to edit out the crackles etc. from my more well abused stuff.

If you're serious about learning to play I would try to find a Honner blues harp in c. Very easy harp for beginners. THE harmonic you have won't have the sound you want it's hard to learn with a cheap harp. They tend to blowout the reeds very easily. So to avoid frustration first purchase a decent harmonica. :) when I first started playing it took about 6 months of daily practice to start getting the hang of it. You'll know when your friends stop telling you it sounds like yer killing a cat!!! Hahaha practice practice practice!! :)
