AZ noob : Diary of first grow.

Well after seeing Paul Ts videos of him eating supers I just had to try some so I ordered a mixed box from a US grower.

I did eat a whole bunch but I ended up dehydrating them...after removing the seeds from about 4-5 of each...which was painful...don't ask :)

I planted about 6 seeds and 4 came up...after about 2 weeks of growth I put the biggest one in a nice new Powergrower.

Here it is after ~90 days.

And at 100.

I must say it has been an incredible journey so far... I just hope its getting enough sun for the pods to grow and ripen...time will tell.

Cheers.

90 days eh? Cool! I finally have a rough estimate of how long i have to wait till mine gets huge. Haha

Beautiful plant! Job well done. Now i'm excited for mine.

Thanks for the kudos guys it's been relatively plain sailing so far...just hope it continues.

Will take pics every 10 days.

About a week away from some Thai Red Demons popping up hopefully...yeah i've caught the bug :D

The problem is i've only got room for 3 plants that get any sun inside :(

Well its only been 5 days but here's some new pics...we all luv pics right.

Seems to be getting more thirsty by the day...prolly around 0.25 G/day and nutes are down to 900 from 1200 4 days ago....so that's 75 ppm/day adsorption.

Second tier of flower have set...should start seeing some 'true' pods shortly.

Keeps awn getting bigger.

What should be a peach bhut...time will tell.

DISASTER!!!...went in to say morning and was saddened to find her in this sorry state.

Looks like the lower shoots may not work out for hydro unless you top it.

There doesn't appear to have been any main trunk damage which is good.

The question now is do i axe the others?

Not bad for a noob I had a ghost pepper plant for a year in the backyard (phx) and it had close to an inch stalk about 4fta tall 2-3ft wide before i got my first pepper then shortly after had to yanked it out after a year only had like 5 pods from the plant and was landscaping the backyard soo the thing had to go but one of my biggest plants but not a good producer best of luck man

Still waiting to see if the pods get full size and ripen before I plant any more.

My first 3 runt pods have been at it for 2 weeks...what's is the average growth time to max size for a bhut?

Looking good man, any more info/pics on the nute setup/system? Hydro set up looks nice, how're you liking it?

Luv it...always hated soil for my regular house plants as I can never really tell what is going on.

Hydro in the GH Powergrowers seems like a piece of cake once you find the right nute mix range.

Got a ppm meter last week so now I am to monitor it...when I changed the water today it was down to 700 ppm from 1200 ppm a week ago exactly.

So it looks like it is using 70-75 ppm per day.

I am using the GH Flora series with the tech recommended 0.5-1.5-2.0 tsp/G of Grow-Micro-Bloom.

Each shoot seems to be pushing at least one pair of leaves per day with just 4-5 hours of direct sun light.

The Powergrower holds 2.5G and the plant is using about 0.5G per day...I top up with fresh water from the supermarket as my tap water is munciple well and is 900 ppm hard.

I just ordered a HydroGardener Pro osmosis system as it is $5 of water per week now....FYI HomeDepot has them on special right now.

I was still getting good growth at 700 ppm today but I have let it starve once before and it got ugly fast and took a whole week to reverse...yellow patching and loss of one tier of flowers.

My second set of flowers has just podded and I have prolly 10 or so in that batch as well as the 3 runts from the first Y's.

Hope that helps

Well just got off the phone with a different GH tech i was quizing her about overwintering in hydro and how long the roots last.

Seems it's possible as long as the roots get plenty of air (possible addn air stone\pump is required), the nutes are kept cool enough and they are flushed ~quarterly.

Anyhow she was chatty and i got back on to mix design any how my plant seems to struggle with a 1200ppm for a day or two then takes off below 1000 (75 ppm per day absorption) and her ideal recommendation was 900-1,000

Looks like i might trim the 1200 mix to 1100 as of next week....my water is ~50 so nutes would be 1050.

Just thought id share.

There are a lot of different bhuts out there... yours is looking good.

Sun and Shade

Provide full sun in the morning and 50% afternoon shade. Chilies need 6 hours or more of sunlight. However, always provide at least 50% afternoon shade when temperatures are over 90°F. Many growers in Phoenix have good success growing chilies on the east side of their houses.
It looks like the pods require direct sun and i think i am under this by 1-2 hours.

Hope it just means they will take twice as long and not end up small and not ripen  :eh:

Day 130 and its getting  little more crowded :D

Decided to clip back to 48" dia to avoid any more midnight snapping and promote upward growth...it wasn't easy!!
