be careful sending seeds to Canada

I sent some bhuts seeds to a fellow member around the middle of Nov. and they still haven't arrived as of yet. I found out why today when I got a letter from Canada Border Services Agency. It says they confiscated the package because the seeds weren't properly label and they could not verify what they were.Bunch of crap over pepper seeds. This is just a little info to others who are sending seeds out of their counrty. Make sure you either label the seeds (not sure if it will help or not) or hide them in the package or you will be out of your seeds and shipping.

When sending stuff out of the country, it is always wise to check the postal regulations. Australia, for example, requires the Latin names to be on the shipping declaration - simply saying "hot pepper seeds" isn't good enough.

When you think about, the requirement of labeling chilli seeds with their full botanical name is not a big ask at all. Hey, at least we are not being asked to acquire a costly permit or anything! ;)

Another thing when sending seeds out of the country is to ensure no pod (or plant) matter is present with the seeds. That's a no no too.

I'm cool with the regulations. There are in place for good reasons. ;)

all the trades i have made cross border, i usually put the seeds in a christmas/birthday card and have never had a problem.

sometimes, our border guys get a little a little anal. there is no way a pepper seed could cause any problem in canada with our cold winter. i can buy weed seeds uncontested.

since canada gave the border guys what they asked for.... side arms... now the ultra left wing unionist feel they have full power over average, everyday canadians and feel they have the power to impose their will. get this, they fought tooth and nail to get side arms, claiming the stress of the job demanded side arms, now they are claiming the stress of having a sidearm demands stress relief with more pay, sick days and more time off.

if you want to send seeds to canada, first check, pepperlover, pepperjoe and peppermania and recommend canadians use that route - shipping is usually free or just a few dollars. but, if you have something rare, put the seeds in a birthday card and send it that way.

I have had seeds and pepper powder sent to me many times from the USA and never had a problem but they were labeled as to what was in the package and the estimated worth of the package.

Sometimes it can take over a month to get the package at your doorstep.
