Sometimes. I really do not remember if I used new or old for this brew. Generally it gets rinsed out without soap and then air dried. It is pre-boil....you think that could be it? I am pretty obsessive with the starsan on everything post boil, but pretty lax on preboil stuff. I just assumed a 60 minute boil would eliminate any issues.
 
i was washing mine and noticed some grains had got trapped inside the tract for the drawstring ...
a boil is capped at 212F, and you need like 40F more and pressure to kill spores!

That maybe have been part of the problem.   Contemplating upgrading some stuff.  I held off on the Arbor order, because I am contemplating getting a bigger brew pot.  
 
Yeah ... replacing my nylon bag ...

For me, three gal is the perfect batch size ...

Two isn't enough, and four to five is a bit too much ...

I will make twelve gallon batches in the big kettle, but split them down into variations ...

All done.  Everything went pretty smooth.  This batch will be kegged
