I started my seeds in early February and continued starting seeds until April...just couldn't stop starting new varieties...again. I always take the cheap route and use plain old Miracle-Gro potting soil. It has always worked for me. I also start my seeds in paper towels then transfer them straight to 4 inch pots (I thought they were 3 inch, but they're 4). I use a 125w CFL for lighting and I usually grow around 30 plants. Here's the beginning.

I had crappy soil before this pic and some of these are bare-root transplants. But I did lose one...Chocolate Primo. It just looked funky after transplant.

Here they were just before plant out. Pic taken on May 4...with the addition of a few new seedlings and maters.

Peppers planted out May 10.

Then I ran into the bugs. The flippin' bugs. Judging by the damage, I'm guessing broad mites.

But I soaped then neemed a couple times and things are looking up. I'll have to get a pic of what that plant (Goatsweed) looks like now. This is the latest pic with the addition of the nursery veggies.

That'll probably do it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you very much, Rich! I've seen a little bit about this but thought it may be difficult. I guess not. Do you think there is still time to try that method here in Michigan? Usually, first frost is mid-October, but it was already in the low 40's this morning. I may have to do some reading. Thanks again!
Wont hurt to try! At the very least chose one to dig up and practice on while you overwinter. You'll succeed first try though as long as you lightly score any "bark" off the branch, have moist medium, seal it up good and keep the light out.

It just seems a little difficult to put soil around a vertical branch and have it stay there. I guess there's a simple way of doing it. Maybe I'm thinking too much soil.

OR! Some cats use rock wool plugs and a touch of rooting hormone. Much cleaner operation. Try your honey bit, in a bunch of rock wool plugs.

Thank you, Dale! The plant is nice and big...really lush...but production is almost nil. There might be a total of ten pods on that plant. It grows vigorously, but it drops most flowers. I love the look of these pods, I guess that's why I want to keep it.
Cool, at least you got 10 pods from it. I've heard it wasn't that productive, which is why I was asking. I was thinking of growing it next year, but it seems like everyone is having an issue with it's pod output. I'll probably go the chocolate brainstrain, or chocolate bhutlah(DM) for my chocolate variety next year.

Hey, Rich! How long do you wait before checking for roots on an air layering?

Thank you, Sim! You're right! "Here. Try this little pepper." Lol. I hope the turn brown/chocolate.

Oh wow! That's sooner than I thought. One last question: Is there a certain amount of roots that you want before clipping it off?
As soon as you have roots showing against the saranwrap, I would clip it, then treat it like any other cutting and prune back any larger leaves, leaving only the smallest. You really want to match root zone mass to foliage for best results.

That's very interesting. I hadn't even thought about the root mass vs foliage. I would've just left them all on. Lol. That's great to know. Thank you very much!

So I decided I wanted to try and keep a clone of my Caramel Cinder plant and attempted another air layering. I chose a branch, scored it, put the dirt and Saran Wrap around it, covered with tinfoil, got it better than the first plant/attempt, I stood up and looked...it was the wrong plant. Now I had to try again. 2 attempts later, I got the correct plant. What an idiot.

Anyway, tried making some mild-medium salsa...Pico de Gallo style. I prefer my veggies raw, so it's just a chop and mix deal. This is what made it in plus spices.

Not too bad, I guess. But I might go less floral/Chinense flavor next time. Maybe fruitier superhots can be added.

Here's are a couple bonus pics of the gf's Mystic Illusion Dahlia. Nice and purple with bright yellow flowers.

Stunning plant Adam and a great addition to any garden. Love the Salsa buddy, I always use bonnets, less floral more of a fruity tone. Or add half a 7 pot. [emoji6][emoji106]

Thanks, Sim! Great idea with the bonnets and/or 7 Pot. I was thinking of throwing a BOC in it to try and "fruiten" it up a little. I'm not great in the kitchen. It's all trial & error for me.
