Bhuter's 2018 Glog

Hello everybody! I'm late again to the adventures of pepper growing. Seeds didn't hit the towel until March 6, so I have some still below, some hooks, and some little plants. Not too much to look at right now but how about a growlist.

Lots of crosses, purples, & BBG. I also air layered a clone from the Caramel Cinder F2 last year (with the help of pepper-guru...thanks, Rich) and it's been in stasis until recently. Just starting new growth and already set a pod.

And here's the whole lot. I don't have much room...just what I can fit under a card table.

Thanks for stopping by!

Plants are looking great there. My Kumatos are finally making maters. Last night ,we finally got some rain up here ,in the Thumb. Seems like the rain has been going either north or south of us.

Looking good man! Love the look of those Cinders. That Peach Clavo x Pink Tiger is pretty cool too. What are the pods like?
Thank you! This is my first year growing it, but this is what Ford says on his Website:

is a very prolific grower that produces purple to peach colored pods that have a sharp intense burn

fruity and nutty flavor. short low compact plant

very beautiful and fun to grow

another one of Tony Sherwood's creation, a fellow grower and friend from Florida.

Thanks, man! We've been getting rain every other day. Makes it hard to feed with liquid ferts. But it's less I have to do. Lol. I can't wait to see how those Kumatos turn out!

The gf and I went to a different garden center so she could pick up another flat of flowers to make her pot arrangements. She ended up getting two flats because they were half price. SCORE!!! And I went there with every intention on getting a Yellow Devil's Tongue (I had seen them earlier this year there). There was one flat of pots left and every one was yellow and looked as if they all got a shot of herbicide. Bummer. But I learned that potted veggies were Buy one get one free, so I found a couple I have never grown or even heard of: Mama Mia Giallo (yellow) & Candy Cane (variegated/red).

No room in the garden, so they'll be potted. The Giallo is my first and only yellow this season. Weird.

Thank you, Ryan! I grew Sugar Baby once and only got one melon. But I just let the bees make them that year. Experimenting this year with hand pollinating because I didn't get a single cantaloupe last year. Lol
I have the same thing with pumpkins, if I didn't paint them then none would come, 99% the flowers are all males for some reason, so kept a charged qtip when a female would show up.

That's like today's luck: It rained quite a bit. Lots of male and female flowers, but they're all soaked and pollen is nil. Lol

Adam those two cinders are cracking pods hopefully the plant I have will produce the same. You will be impressed with the Purple Ghost Scorpion flowers they are really special... great to catch up with your patch

I wonder what they mean when they say the Candy Cane Red has "unique variegated foliage"?

You can see it in the picture... Looks like it has mosaic virus or something. White patches on the leaves
Yup, Andy is correct, DP! The leaves on the plant are showing signs and the pod has faint striping. Just like the Fish pepper. But the other plants at the nursery with larger pods had better stripes.

Thank you John! I hope you get great Cinders! The Purple Ghost Scorpion is one of my favorite looking plants. The pigment is beautiful! More "veiny" purple than full coverage. This was a week or so ago.

I just assumed those were the typical blemishes and flaws you find in end-of-the-season discounted plants.

That gives me a great idea to pass on to the Marketing Department!

Instead of cutting the price on all the distressed plants at the end of the Spring, raise the price and just describe all the blemishes as "variegated"!  :liar:

How can one tell the difference between male and female flowers?
