Bhuter's 2018 Glog

Hello everybody! I'm late again to the adventures of pepper growing. Seeds didn't hit the towel until March 6, so I have some still below, some hooks, and some little plants. Not too much to look at right now but how about a growlist.

Lots of crosses, purples, & BBG. I also air layered a clone from the Caramel Cinder F2 last year (with the help of pepper-guru...thanks, Rich) and it's been in stasis until recently. Just starting new growth and already set a pod.

And here's the whole lot. I don't have much room...just what I can fit under a card table.

Outstanding results!
Thank you, Scott!

A few mistakes or things left out in the write-up.
The phloem is the inner part of the branch...the white/tan part you see after cutting off the xylem. That middle is what moves nutrients upward.

Tape the bottle longways BEFORE trying to put soil in the bottle, otherwise the tape won't stick.

Here's the link where I learned the water bottle trick. Last year, it was Saran Wrap. PITA!

Wow!  LOVE, Love, love it!  This is right up my mad scientist alley and may help salvage some of the work that went into this year's huge bust of a garden, without bringing home any of the pest and pestilence in the community gardens.  And, I've got three of those mini-greenhouses, all with lights, so I could, theoretically, have fresh peppers year round!  Since I'm moving to all containers next year, I'll be able to get an extra early start.  The NuMex Sauve Orange is first on the list.

I, also, have a couple of questions.
  1. Is there a "better" place on a branch to do this?  Above a fork?  Below?
  2. Have you ever mixed any rooting compound into your packing material?  If so, did you notice any difference?
  3. Does it really only take a couple of weeks?
I need to start collecting water bottles!  Woot woot!

AWESOME!!!! I love your enthusiasm, Nancy! I'll try to answer the questions.

1. I've just found a branch about the width of a pencil, take off a couple leaves, then try in between them. Maybe if the top of the cut is closer to a node (or leaf stem), it may root faster??? I don't know.

2. No rooting compound is needed because you're using the plants own power to produce roots. I've never tried hormones on this technique. And just plain soaked and squeezed sphagnum moss works for most. I just use potting soil (usually all I have)

3. I'm sure the longer you leave it, the better the roots will get. But my season was almost over and I just took a chance at week 2. There weren't long roots at all, but you can see a bright white buldge coming from the top of the cut. I didn't think I had enough roots/root development, but here's how it looked before I just straight planted it and watered. Then would water every week or every other week.

Here's my tiny root build.

I cut the branch off the bottom, but left enough to where it would stand.

Then I thought it was a goner.

But I kept doing the occasional watering and left it by the window. North facing, but it apparently got enough light. It started looking like a normal plant again.

I hope this helps!!!!

That’s a cool trick [emoji16]. Looks like I’m going to have OW more plants than I originally planned to. ( or at least try to OW). Thanks for the tricks!

That Cinder with the tail looks killer!

Those Brown Morugas (Judy's?) are huge. Have you weighed/measured them?
Thanks, Al! I'm saving seeds from that little tailed pod just to see if it REALLY matters to pick pod shape. I'll grow one of these along with my isolated F4's next year.

Yes, Judy's Brown Moruga. I haven't measured them, but they're pretty big. Golf ball sized. The one pictured weighed 12.27g. I've had an 18 grammer. But it was the first to come off. Really dense. I got some pods from Judy in 2014 and have been growing from those same seeds I got from one pod. Lol

I agree, they hurt pretty good. One of the worst gut wrench experiences I ever had came from one of those
My gf's nephew ate a reaper whole then asked me what I had that was hotter. Brown Moruga it is! He ate the darn thing whole and when I saw him, at 4-glasses-of-milk-in, he started developing hives on his face, neck, then down his chest.

He said it was waaay hotter than the reaper.

Am I the only one who preps before eating a superhot? I make sure I have sufficient food on my stomach and I drink a tall glass of milk a few minutes before eating it. It ALMOST ensures you won't get cap cramps and brings ring burn down to a minimum. The pain should be from the bottom of the throat and up rather than everywhere else too.

But how did you like the flavor? Would you cook with them?
If you like the floral scorpion flavor, then this is for you. It's not perfumey. Just Moruga floral. And dense and hot as balls. I cut one in half and threw half into a pot of chili. It burned my lips, but that's all. I shoulda diced it up in there. I like it.
