Bhuter's 2018 Glog

Hello everybody! I'm late again to the adventures of pepper growing. Seeds didn't hit the towel until March 6, so I have some still below, some hooks, and some little plants. Not too much to look at right now but how about a growlist.

Lots of crosses, purples, & BBG. I also air layered a clone from the Caramel Cinder F2 last year (with the help of pepper-guru...thanks, Rich) and it's been in stasis until recently. Just starting new growth and already set a pod.

And here's the whole lot. I don't have much room...just what I can fit under a card table.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you, Tristan! I think if I have a lot of greens that they'll all be small. The bigger pods should finish out. According to the forecast, it'll still be above freezing...in fact in the 50's...on the 20th. So I have a few more weeks. But it's the up and down that the plants don't care for. I usually pull plants between the middle of oct to middle of nov.
Yeah, looks like a warm Fall.  I just checked the local AccuWeather long range forecast,
and the first frost is predicted to be a long ways off, likely well into November. Lows
in the 40's until 3rd week November. Perhaps there is hope!

I just did the same...accuweather...and mine also says middle or so of November!!! It'll be in the 30's a few times, but not below 36 until then. :woohoo:

I pulled a pod off of one of the few isolations that I got to take. Kinda glad this one took. (Compared to Bishop's Crown) Awesome flowers, not as heavy fruits, medium heat...but still lanky.

I counted 45 isolated seeds this time.

Well, that didn't last long. I just checked the forecast again, and yes, it's still warm at night in November...but it's gonna get cold this weekend. Like 35°F. So, I'm gonna have to chop the air layer AND pull up the plant because I'm not going to know if the clone takes in time. I'm pulling it up just in case. I guess we'll see how well the Dyna-Gro Pro-Tekt works at strengthening and resisting cold.

Good to see everything still going well.

My forecast shows first freeze November 17, but supposed to get to 34° October 16.

Yeah 35° the 12th & 14th and under 40° at night for 6 days. They SHOULD be ok. Lol
I think as long as it's not cold and damp, they do okay in our climate down
to the mid-thirties (sporadically, not every night) as long as the days are at
least in high 50's - 60's or better. It's looking pretty good here for the rest of this month,
and only a few 39-41's in November, with low to mid 30's not forecast until
mid-December. Then in January and February, we get the pineapple express

But, cold nights with wet days are the kiss of death   :(

I finally have some Brown Morugas ripening.

This Purple Flower BBG has got a bunch. I hope they finish out. It's a darn good snacking pepper.

The pods start out upright, then fall as they get heavy.

If there are any members who like to grow gourmet/medicinal mushrooms out there, I have a brand new LC of Cordyceps Militaris that I'm not interested in growing. I'd kinda like to trade for other mushroom stuff. Or whatever. Lol. Here's where it came from a little over a week ago.

Just if anybody is interested. Thanks for stoppin' by!

Well, I tend to round up, when buying from folks here.

Guess that means, there won't be quite as big a "tip" as I usually provide.

I was informed today by the lady at the post office that the proposed SFRB rate starting January 2019 is $7.90. Get ready to whip out an extra buck instead of two dimes.

Just a little update on my second attempt at air layering. Time was short, so after only ten days, I checked it and there were zero roots. So I pulled the whole plant out of the ground. I ended up planting the non-rooted clone in a pot I had prepared anyway. That was about two weeks ago. Maybe one week. Anyway, here's that little clone now.

So now I have the mother plant AND a clone. ‍♂️ Better than none. So unbelievably, the clone took without roots or rooting hormone. I just watered with nutrients...once.

My gf's bday just passed and she used to have a really big jade plant/tree that eventually got water rot. I looked for a new one and found an awesome variegated jade for her. I love this thing.

Only $13 including shipping on Etsy. First purchase ever from that site. I'm impressed.

So did the frost and freezing temperatures hit your garden?

They sure did! I cleaned off my last 4 plants yesterday because they called for 27° last night. It was 30° when I looked at 7am and everything was toasted. So next is clean up along with leaf raking. How are things over there?

We got our first frost on 10/14, but my plants didn’t get hit, so I dug up a couple to OW. The below freezing air temperatures got the rest of the plants a couple of days later.

This is off topic, but are there any mycologists (mushroomers) out there who'd like to try growing a new species? I have a liquid culture of Cordyceps Militaris. The syringe is brand new and was made in September. I also have various bags of sterilized grains to get you started.

Cordyceps are a parasitic fungus that attack pupa and larvae...then disgustingly enough, the fruit body (mushroom) grows right out of their heads! Of course that all goes on underneath, "underground", within the substrate/medium...so you just see the orange fruit body. But bugs are involved and the gf isn't havin' it. So I must let this go.

Both the LC and Sterilized grains came from Out Grow. Here's a link to the liquid culture.

http://out-grow.com/mushroom-cultures-c-2/cordycep-militaris-p-250.html

If there ARE any cultivators out there who are interested, I'd be happy to trade for a different culture. But if not, I kinda wanna sell this mini kit.
Included are:

1) 10cc Liquid Culture syringe of Cordyceps Militaris
1) Sterilized bag of Rye grain, popcorn OR Brown rice flour.

It'll weigh a little over a pound, so I'm not sure what shipping would be.

How about $25 shipped?

If anybody is interested, please pm me. I'm sorry for writing this in my glog, but I didn't know if I could post an ad.

Outstanding grow, Adam, right to the bitter, cold end

I can't wait to see what you do with Tristen's cross next
season, if you decide to grow it out again.
