Black Pearl Pepper

I really love how these look..
I got this at the farmers market about a month ago. Was a great find!

I grew them last year. They are a very beautiful plant and the seeds generally come back true. However they are not worth anything to eat, they are the only pepper I ever ate that felt like the skin was being pulled off my tounge and no benefit of taste to go along with it.

Yeah they don’t taste to great, but looks make up for it.

I have a friend that has the same pepper outside, some reason his leafs are green I think it has something to do with fertilizers, he said it was black when he first got it. I ate one of those peppers at an early stage, and seem to have a real sweet taste to them.

Nothing you really want to grow for consumption purposes, that’s for sure.
 
I have 2 in the greenhouse and so far yuck..
when i found them at my friends greenhouse he was saying they were super hot.
look good but no heat yet ...
 
They are very hot when they are red. I like them black (green) now. They are still very hot (when the plant is mature enough), but taste sweet. A couple black ones are very good quartered on a sandwich or on pizza.

That’s interesting I will try that, as long as it doesn’t burn the skin on off my tongue.. haha.
 
One of my Goatsweed plants recently sprouted with black leaves, anyone know if thats normal?
And - blackpearl plants - fertilizer, sunlight, water, all play a part in how good it looks...green or black leaves, hot or mild pods. I've never met such a finicky plant.
Currently having my 3rd attempt at growing from the seeds of the parent plant. I haven't tried threatening it yet, maybe they're susceptible to verbal abuse?

That’s interesting, its in same family "Annuum" so maybe this is possible? I heard crossing black pearl is very hard to do for some reason.. Maybe somebody can clarify this for us?

Interesting, good thing I got mine at farmers market, everything was done for me, lol.. We will see next time around I grow this from seed. next summer most likely..[/QUOTE]

yeah that’s pepper abuse, lol..
 
Mine had a whole range of colors when I grew them also. I thought it was just the plant. Mine grow like weeds and are interesting the second year beacuse I had a few green pearls in there with the seeds I saved. Light makes a big difference to the color of the plants.
