Bodeen's 2012 Grow Log - THE END!!!!!

Anxious to get dirt under my nails, so I might as well start this thing off.

Got an unfinished basement that is mainly storage. It has an old 1957 bathroom in it. I tore that out today and will be using that as my grow room as soon as I get it done. It is small enough a small heater will keep my temps in check. (Pictures of progress will come once I get it looking better lol)

Last year I built a grow table and this year I am putting up a shelving unit with grow lights on many of the shelves.

My one garden area that will be expanded on this year I believe. 40x30

My other garden which is longer, but not as wide.

Then I put this row in last year and my thoughts we strawberries, but it might be a row of peppers.

My motto is Rabbit eats garden, Gardener eats rabbit. They are the reason I have to fence the gardens

I also plan on doing some peppers in pots this year.

My tray of peppers last year went 71 out of 72 popped. Hope I can get these results this year.

Tried some sweet peppers today. The Atris pepper was the best I tried today. The other two were the tangerine dream and the golden treasure. I think a fully ripe Atris could give Jimmy Nardello a run for sweetness. I hope so, I need a lot of these.

Here is the end result. Goliath/Billy Biker on the left, Purple on the right. The reason the purple is so much clearer is because it had the pulp strained out of it after it was cooked down.

First Lemon Drop peppers of the season.

Some were a bit over ripe, but I will dry them. Tried a ripe one and it doesn't have the heat of a cayenne, but the flavor is a bit bitter. Not sure if it is because they are the first early set peppers off the plants.

Well, as soon as someone posts here, I will be able to add the photo lol

Got some tabago turning red. Thought I might have mixed up the plant as the pods look hot. I thought I got the seasoning seeds, but I might not have lol. As soon as I can post pictures on my thread again, I will post some up.

Bodeen, that was the same experience I had last year with Lemon Drop. The plant was loaded, but nothing was ripe when we had our first frost. Everything ripened off the vine eventually, but when I tasted them, I thought they were bitter, and wasn't sure if the flavor would have been different if they had ripened on the vine. I thought the flavor of the Aji Yellow was much better.

Jelly looks good! Do you add any fruit juice, or is it a vinegar based recipe?

No fruit juice is added, it is vinegar based. I should have some lemon drops ripen before frost. I will have to remember about the Aji lemon next year

Hey, Bodeen; been too long since I visited your glog.
Was glad to see it at the top of page one of the index!
Your grow is really getting it on, now; the garden spaces
are just awesome - looks like serious growing going on
there in every corner.

How do you dry your small peppers? I have some hanging
in a mesh bag in the greenhouse, but am not sure that's
going to do the trick; maybe I should just use the dehydrator?

Good growin' to you!

I have some lemon drops strung up on string, but last year I did that with some Cayenne and they molded on me. I prefer to use the dehydrator going forward. Going to get some cascabellas drying tomorrow.

Had my first bhut turning red for me, but the middle of the pod was rotten. Hope that isn't a trend.

Maybe my lemon drops pic will post now.

Grrrrr. The pic shows up until I hit post. Then I get the broken link. WTF!!!

Starting to have more and more peppers pop. A lot of my sweets are on the verge. I have several bhuts that are turning, but not fully ripe yet. It is starting to look good out there.

Overall picking for today

Will probably be the last year I grow regular jalapeno peppers. The Billy Biker and Goliath are much better.

This came out of a package from Totally Tomatoes for Cayenne blend. Doesn't look like the other cayennes in the first picture. Almost looks like a yellow Serrano.

Picked my first Bajio today. Really love the flavor that it has. Can't wait to throw it in a tomato sauce and ladle it over walleye.

Any help on identify my black scorpion in an early post on this thread would be greatly appreciated. I don't think its a black.

Had to try a Cumari C today. Weird taste, strange smell, quite hot, but it leveled off fairly soon and didn't spread around much. Not sure if I like them or not, but I am thinking about popping another one into my mouth.
