plant-care Bottom Watering containers outside?

To those of you that container grow your peppers outside...how do you bottom water them? Do you even continue that once they are placed outside? I plan on putting a couple of the peppers in the ground but the vast majority will remain in 5 gallon planters. Advice???
 
I supposed you could buy a cheap kid's pool, those small plastic jobs, and put your containers in there and fill it with water.
Now that I think of it, that's something I may look into, as well. I had some 5 gal. bucket plants last year and they didn't do as well as I would have expected.
