burned by my own heat!

I know this is an old experience to most of you, but yesterday
was the first time ever tasting a pepper that I grew all by my
little self. All the way from seed.

The very first ripe Thai Dragon off one of my own plants. Out of literally dozens of peppers on each plant, one single pepper started to ripen a few days ago and today was fully bright red.
Not even a blush on any other peppers. Just the one.

It was a nice thick long pointy one about 3 inches long. I picked it, took it inside and cut it in half lengthwise and popped half in my mouth, chewed it up and swallowed.

MAN, those puppies may not Habs or Naga's but they are no slouches either! DAMN that thing was hot! Gave me the hiccups and sweats and was burning in my mouth and throat for a good while.

I was absurdly pleased with myself roasting my mouth with my own pepper :hell:

Cant wait till I get some of my Caribbean Reds and Naga Morich ripe. By my reckoning I cant be more than a couple weeks out from my first ripe pods on those babies :mouthonfire:

Nice! Congrats with this 1st time addicting experience! There's nothing like the feeling of growing and eating your own peppers. Yes the thai's can have a little sting to them and they are awesome when thrown into cooked dish's and soups as the smokey heat flavor is delicious. I'm betting next year you'll have twice as many plants now that you have this 1st years growing going well :)

Already planning my next crop ;)

I can definitely fit a few more pots on my deck!
Also gonna build a nice shelf for them inside the railing thats a bit more stable.

True!
I just got home from sharing a ripe Hungarian Black pod with my mate who was looking after my plants while I was in rehab. He told me "I'd love to eat one of them now" so I picked the HB pod, because it the most bearable one of the ripe pods. :)
He enjoyed it massively (and so did I!)!

.........mmmmmmmmm........Thai Dragons........One of the many reason I loooooooove Thai food!! I don't think they are as hot as habs and such, but they have a very unique bite to them and sting pretty darn good. I'm still waiting on my peppers, this is making me yet more excited. I also think I'm going to have to add Thais to my collection if I have room later on.

Do so if you can! They'll yield lotsa peppers and will make your efforts more than worthwile. Every 2nd pepper I pick is a Thai/Dutch Pepper.

Yep. Very busy plants. They were the first to flower, first to grow pods, first to ripen, and they have about 3 times more peppers than the other varieties. It might be an "annum" thing.

My other varieties are super hot chinenses

yep! thats why I love growing thais. & some of'em have a good spice to them. I know they dont have the flavor as a chinense type or as hot as habanero types, but they're still labeled "very hot" right alongside with some other habaneros.
but sadly I'm still waiting on some ripe pods :lol:

So they'll probably be like my Purira? My Purira plant is budding like mad and it was one of the later plants I started. Also, more peppers..............SWEET!!:D

You can see them in my other thread called "UPDATE to my very first porn"

Lordy lordy!

I couldnt wait for one to be fully ripe. I picked one of the oldest
Naga Morich pods that reached its full size a couple weeks ago.

It was still solid green. No hint of orange or red, but it had darkened to a real deep green compared to the lighter green of the newer pods.

Uncut it had a really cool pungent scent to it I have not noticed in other varieties.

I cut it in half lengthwise and then cut the half in half again
and ate that ( all told about 1/4 of an unripe pod ) including
placenta and everything.

Sweet Jesus! That was the hardest I've ever been hit by any pepper ever. It took a minute or two to kick in full, but crap!
I was coughing and hiccuping and sweating profusely. (swearing profusely, too!)
I swear to god my tongue felt like it had acid on it. It was like white hot acid with about 50,000 amps of current passing through it attached to a huge red hot drill bit tunneling through my tongue.

The full bore burn lasted about 15 minutes before it began to fade. Its been about an hour and I can still feel some tingling
and my tongue feels kind of numb.

That was 1/4 of an unripe Naga Morich

Umhuh...gotcha didn't it...I can eat little slices of them now with food...not by themselves...speaking of...I am going to make some Naga cornbread to go with my black eyed peas and pork chops...later all..
