Pot stills are just fine as long as you actually know how to make proper cuts. But the smaller the boiler, the more problems you will run into. Plus your output of drinkable spirits will be pitifully small. I would never try a boiler smaller than 5 gallons.

Grape spirits are very forgiving, no matter what. If you forget the heads or collect the tails it's still tasty shiz that will get you faced.
 
Gotta be carefull witg grapa just like any fermented fruit. Couldn't pay me enough dollars to even smell the heads no matter what the hooch is made from!
