seeds Can seeds Get Moldy? Will they still Work?

I got the black fuzz on 9 CPI Bhut Jolokia using the plastic bag method. Took them out and soaked them for an hour in highly dilute domestos (a UK non peroxide bleach). A week later 7 of them germinated and are now healthy looking seedlings with a good first set of true leaves.

for sure try to use some soak for ten minutes
do not throw them out just yet

i put some bleach water for a soak as part of germination process
like 1 part bleach to five parts water soak for ten minutes then dry off
by putting on paper towel
turn after five minutes then put in ziploc baggie

if they still wet they will fog the baggie and you need to dry more

remember those chili plants work very hard to make those seeds
strong enough for a run through a birds digesterator
they can handle a little bleaching (or peroxide as others suggest)

never ever give up

Oh man! I did that with my Manzano seeds the first time I pulled some from the fruit. I just threw them out. Should have tried though!

I know when I put chile seeds in my Aerogarden they almost always mold at first, even the seedlings, but grow up happy and healthy. So, it's worth a shot I suppose.
You do know Manzano seeds are black... right?

Anyhow about the mold part.
1. Well dried seeds won't become "moldy".
2. Well stored & treated seeds won't become "moldy".
3. Intact seeds will still germinate if viable, even though the outer shell has experienced "changes".
4. You can sterilize your seeds with a water dilution of bleach.
