Capsidadburn grow 2012

Outside in my backyard are the remains of my 2011 season carcass sprawling all over the backyard. It is ugly! It needs to be reanimated and made ready for my 2012 season within 2 months.

Inside of course the season has began all over again. I am very pleased to say that I am only germinating 36 variety's so far this year. That is down 75 from last year. Pending some trades arrival from Finland, (7 more), that will be all. I have managed to keep myself out of the marketplace where the seeds tend to flow like white water rapids.

Here is my germ list for 2012;

Thanks very much Eric. Yours looks great as well!

Finally I have some pods ripening. Excited to make some jam with the Quintisho and the Peruvian White habs.
Quintisho pods. Very citrusy and hotter than the P. White habs.

Thanks Charles, I am quite pleased with their shape and production.

Hooda, I hope your plants do well for you as well, thanks for the visit!

Here is a small harvest pic;
June102012009.jpg

Douglah cross that weighed 16.2 grams Almost earthy taste somewhat unpleasant. Good heat but not as hot as the yellow pod next.
June102012006.jpg

This yellow pod on the right was an overwinter that turned out not to be Bode Amarello. At least it is yellow. I did grow true to form Bode plants last year so I am not sure what this is. It does not taste as well as Yellow 7 pod or Yellow Bhut. It is blistering hot almost immediately , within minutes painfully uncomfortable and burning the back of throat. I only had a small slice so it was tolerable within 15 mins.

I'll be making some trial jam today. Hot Raspberry Lemon using Qintisho pods.
Good day all.

Charles; I have to say, the thought crossed my mind too! I have another Douglah cross that will be ripe soon that tasted amazing last year.
Todays jam; Hot Lemon Raspberry Peach ...I will sample the incomplete jar tommorrow with my coworkers.

Later folks, I gotta do dishes!

Great looking photos Mike! That jam looks great, what do you put it on? I think I may have to experiment a bit with that this summer.

Whether or not that is a yellow douglah (even though that would be the bees knees) it sure looks like a keeper.

Charles I like to believe that everybody has something to learn as well as something to teach. Thanks for the kind words.

MGold Thanks! I kept the plant last year as it was interesting. I mostly have the jams on toast or bagels. I was also just working with what I had on hand. Some flavors are great as a glaze on pork, ham, or fish. I usually end up giving them away to friends.

Great day people!
Mike

Eric, I will get a look at the flower tonight but I am pretty sure it is chinense. Edit; Currently no blooms on it...

So what was the verdict on how the jam turned out? I've been doing Cranberry Jalapeno for a few years, and tried Habanero Gold last year, but would like to try some new combinations this year. There was a Hot Lemon Jam/Jelly recipe on the recipes section here at THP a while back that I definitely want to give a try. My favorite way to eat the pepper jelly is on an English muffin slathered in cream cheese. Mmmmmm ....

Hornilla, They are a lot of fun to watch grow. great color! I have one 1st year plant as well as the overwinter. Thanks for stopping by.

Bonnie;
Sadly, I decided not to take it to work as it did not set up right. :tear: It is very sweet and there is little to no heat. I think I will keep two jars as pancake topping and rework the rest. I did skimp on the sugar, (I am on a doctor ordered diet for high triglycerides). I will add some more peppers to it.
Thats why its practice jam I guess...
I've had great success in the past with a wild Grape, wild Plum, and wild Tepin. I will be doing more of these this year hopefully...
Thanks

Well yesterday cracked 101 F. I have quite a few plants not shaded. One of my lovely Yellow Scorpion Cardi now has a nickel sized scald spot on it. Bummer!
