food Carroll Shelby Chili Mix

I love the carroll shelbys chili mix kit in the brown bag, but for us in MN we dont have many choices to choose from either, but its still a good one IMO.
but I'd like to add that I also add other ingredients to the chili, & even more of certain ingredients that are already in the package. as for MSG it doesnt have any in carroll shelbys, its all natural ingredients far as I know & you dont have to add the salt either, its all separate packages.
make the chili really thick & pack it full of veggies & beans then throw in hamburger or venison.
I might get some slack for this, & you all say this MN guy is crazy ;) I add carrots to my chili, yea I said CARROTS :P :) it tastes good, well at least the way I make chili.

carrots......belive it or not ive seen weirder....was at a cook off in durham last year and there was a group that made chili using pinaple.

last cook off in tanglewood i went to a guy was like..try my chili try my chili...im like ok......right before i tasted it he squeezed a quarter of a lime into the tasting cup....keep in mind a tasting cup is like 2 ounces..so i had 1 ounce of chili and 1 ounce of lime juce......all i could taste was the lime juice.

yea I forgot lemons/limes are fruit  a little of lime or lemon can be ok if you dont over do it, I dont use them but I could see where it might be ok in moderation, maybe.
as for chicken chili sure why not, that'd be alright, but I'd prefer beef or venison.

old thread, but i picked up a pack of the cs chili mix just because of the novelty i guess.. gonna make some today, just have to go to the store to get some more stuff to mix in. making two batches, one for my grandma, and one for me, so i'll be adding some heat to mine! ;)

it was delicious. had some last night, and a bowl today for lunch.

the ingredients in the actual chili mix are: corn masa flour (to thicken), ground chili peppers, salt, garlic, cumin, oregano, onion, paprika, and cayenne pepper.

the corn masa flour, cayenne pepper, come in their own separate pouches, while everything else is in a larger pouch as the main chili mix.

since i made two batches at once (my grandma doesn't like it hot at all), i used 1 lb of ground beef for each, half a green bell pepper in each, sort of eyeballed the rest, except the peppers.

in mine, i used 3 habaneros, 2 serranos, 2 large jalapenos, some carrot (thanks for the idea chilihunter, was a good addition.), fresh diced garlic, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, (how could i forget->) kidney beans, crushed and ground red pepper, oregano, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, cilantro, salt, and black pepper. i think that was it. oh, and all the seeds from all the peppers.

not burn your mouth off hot, but cleared out my sinuses and was easily as hot as my "thai hot" thai food last week. :)

XG - that chili looks mighty tasty, just the way I like it chunky with everything in it. glad you liked the carrot idea, it gives the chili a little different taste & not over powering either also gives the chili some color for pazazz

thanks. yea, the carrots are a good ingredient. i tried to soften them up a little by letting the chili cook (on low heat) for a little longer.. they were crunchy at first..didn't get quite as soft as i intended, but it really didn't matter.

that's what i love about chili, you can throw in just about anything.

yesterday i picked up a bottle of blair's mega death sauce..stirred in a little bit into a bowl of chili tonight for dinner. it was great, and definitely had a bit more of a burn to it.

Looks good I've wondering if those chili mixes are any good -- I tend to do it by eye and havent measured anything. I'll try one of those mixes though thanks

heh i think i said it earlier..but i basically bought it for the novelty. i'm into cars and saw carroll shelby chili mix, so i had to buy some. :shh:

good stuff, but not something that would be too hard to mix on your own. to tell you the truth, i had almost forgotten to add the actually chili mix into the chili since i had already added so many ingredients and spices.
