You can find good CA at garage sales, estate sales,2nd hand stores and craigslist. I found lots of great quality dutch ovens / skillets from these old vintage companies. Birmingham Stove & Range, Favorite Stove & Range, Griswold , Lodge, Martin Stove & Range, Sidney Hollow Ware, Vollrath, Wagner and Wapak Hollow Ware. I've paid anywhere from $10 up to $100 for these dutch ovens. Nothing made today for a $100 can even compare to any of the above you can find for under $100. Most of my dozen DO's were between 15- 50 dollars.dragonsfire said:Cant believe how expensive cast iron has become, unreal
Once your CI has been seasoned correctly all you have to do is rinse with water to clean. After always heat the pan back up and lightly coat the surface with oil and rub it back into the pan and remove any excess oil with a towel.Grass Snake said:I tried that and it works but not after cooking meats. It would start to smell rancid after a week, maybe I'm doing it wrong.
CI pizza is great. Thats what started me making homemade pizza and adventually went to a ceramic kamado grill for pizzas instead of my oven. The CI can take the high heat 800-1000* in the kamado.Edmick said:I have a nice little collection of cast iron skillets and Dutch ovens. You inspired me to restore a 15 inch skillet that a buddy gave me when he moved. I removed all the rust with dilute vinegar and steel wool. It's in the oven now drying and then I'm gonna season it. Should turn out good as new. I really wanna make pizza with it.
