What the heck - half of these were MY pepper varieties. lol. Someone's doing some good marketing - Trinidad Scorpion 'Morouga Blend' too. Is Gerald a member here? Hand selecting off of a stable strain like TS Morouga to come up with Satan's Kiss strain? Hmmmmmm...... It's a pure strain to start with and no crossing mentioned. I feel like the naming is going a bit far honestly, but it's marketing.

This Warwick University is having no issues kicking out 1mm+++ SHU figures too.

Hell yeah Chris, I agree 100% alot of BS has come from that site and always seems "warwick" back the so called findings.
 
chris i dont think we have many seeds companies we can really trust ..... we know what is going on but i feel sorry for many new users or growers who just buy what ever these guys market....
 
thank god for the few trustworthy spots out there. judy , neil and a few others that are keeping it real and not chasing dollar. a lot of kids are gonna buy a lot of crap and be dissapointed. it sucks.
 
man, that just sucks. sorry to hear that chris.

i hope they could at least do some research and some sort of communication to the sources of these strains.

Now the Trinidad Viper, the story there is that, I planted Trinidad Viper for the 2009 season and lost the SMALL crop that I was going to use for seed and to have re tested. I still have seed and have just started to germinate some for testing and seed harvesting.
I still need to see if the seed will come true to type but with the heat levels as they have been recorded even if every other seed produces a hot plant I will be happy.
If you PM I will send you the test results from Warwick HRI Lab showing the results.
So at the moment I am waiting for the seeds to germinated, harvest the seeds and send some of the pods away for testing.

He does seem to give some credit when he says, "This little beauty has been tested at 1,194,205 (SHU). The chap growing this has been selecting pods for heat (by taste) for over 3 years and growing on to produce this scorching strain of Red Morouga.
 
He was calling them Morouga reds until I told him that there is already a Morouga red landrace variety and he was asking for people's pictures to use :( There was a thread on another forum where nobody believed me, everyone seems to now be calling them Morouga reds. Hopefully I cleared that up.
I get in lots of arguments about Gerald's questionable marketing practices. I guess I have become fond of pointing out inaccuracies and deception, and I see preying on the naive and gullible as just plain wrong, and to think that it takes only 3 years to create a new variety is just stupid
 
Yeah, I agree about the $$$ thing. I looked at my original post and I made a mis-statement. I certainly didn't make the TS Morouga Red. :) I was gifted seeds from a very generous person in Tobago many years ago. The person said it was an amazing pod and I chased seeds for a long time. I was very thankful they shared it and I spread it around the world. My problem is with selling a new named pod as a separate variety and hoping people will buy both strains thinking they're so different. I've grown TS Morouga many years and the pods are VERY consistent year to year.

Really? lol I thought the TS Morouga blend was a cross between a Scorpion and a Morouga Red


Ballon Peppers? thats funny I have the same thing and they are called Bishops Crowns, I wonder if this guy is Pepper Joes english cousin lol

Warwick's a pretty decent university sp I doubt they're in on any chicanery. More likely they've simply run a test as they've been told to run it. My understanding of scoville is you can get very different readings depending on how/what you test (size of pepper, placenta, whole pod etc). Maybe they are testing differently to others hence the big numbers?
 
The Ballon peppers I have are C.Annuum,Bishops crown etc. are C.Baccatum.
No specks on balloon pepper buds.

All pods shaped like that aren't Bishops cap...not all C.Baccatum...
There are several strains of the Baccatum too with several variations of that pod shape.

I don't understand why people can't accept that there are a lot of strains of similar looking pods out there that are different strains/varieties but easily accept certain ones ONLY as being able to be classified as a different strain(7pot brain strain or whatever).

Some seed venders then make it even worse by misslabling and or making up their own story and name too.


It seems that ANY popular variety or strain of pepper these days gets renamed or uses another peppers discription for sales purposes and is also accompanied by a story the vender wrote to go along with it.
I remember when Naga Jolokia was the name used for about all that type of super hot.
Then Ghost pepper was used to sell Bhuts that were naga Morich.
Now it is going on with 7 pot etc.
People are even going further by selling crossed seeds they grew and naming them also as anything they think will sell the seeds.
A lot don't care if the cross-be it accidental or intentional-is anywhere near stable.

Gotta sell the seeds before another variety or strain comes along.

Not that everyone is doing it but a lot of guys seem to be just trying to not get off the gravy train,no matter what it takes...
