Chilli & Pepper dispenser??

I was looking at the idea of dispensing dried chillies from a regular pepper mill.... Maybe with salt or peppercorns added, or maybe not.

My question is, how to get the chillies to that stage?

I have a dehydrator, so no problem there... But surely I would need smaller than whole chillies for filling the peppermill? and how to grind/cut them?

Thoughts please....

Oh my. That's a little rich. I remember someone on here from Sweden or Denmark was saying it was like $500 (U.S). That's ridiculous! I think he bought it anyway tho. :)

$129 and worth every penny. Especially after burning up 5 cheap-ass coffee grinders.
Course chopped, flakes or moon dust. And it eats whole nutmegs for breakfast.

Check that. $115. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/viewcart.cfm
I couldn't find if the grinder is adjustable or not. If it is I might get one of these bad boys.

There are no settings or adjustments on the Waring. It is commercial grade and has no "bells and whistles". It has a button that you "tap" for pulsing. It will make flakes great with one or three taps, or hold down the button and it will go to moon dust. It comes with three stainless bowls with lids, and each has their own blades. Kind of handy.

Ok thanks for the info !

Ugh, I'm torn.  I'm about to get a dehydrator and need something for making flakes and powder.  I have a CIA Vitamix which I'm not allowed to use the main container for any of my pepper pleasures:

I was considering getting this dry blade/container to use with it to make powders and flakes, but saw the above two options and now am unsure what to do:

To stay somewhat on the topic of this thread, one of these grinders everyone has mentioned would possibly help to your end goal, though I would think you only need to run the dried peppers in there for like a split second in order for the pieces to be large enough for a mill to really do any good.  Would there be any difference to just grinding it up before hand or is it just the presentation aspect you're looking for?

EDIT:  Just realized, for that matter you could probably just slice the dried peppers up with a knife in order to get them to the desired size.  Playing with a high potential of over-pulverization for the nature of what you're trying to do with a grinder of any type.

McScruffy- I found this listing on flea-bay for 2 replacement Vitamix carafes.  Since you already have the base, I'd look for extra carafes.  Check craig's list also.  Look on the website "allofcraigslist.com" for easy nationwide search.

Simon, having a grinder full of salt, pepper, chiles, minced garlic......GREAT idea!  please post pics when you get it all done.

The salsalady has spoken and she approves of your idea. 'Nuff said. Read up on her posts and got respect for her, yo.

Everyone just loves those little nicknames for me eh? Gotta pay for a site membership to figure out where it all came from though!

See what I did there? Do I get a commission or something?

At least I'm not being consistently called Egg McScruffin.

... oh god, I just put that one out in the open, didn't I?

Thanks for the comments, ElScruffy, but it's no big deal and in case you hadn't noticed.... we're big on nicknames and abbreviations around here...;)

OOPS!  you just got another one!  Sorry, I can't help it....there's just too many options!
