Chipotle from red or green jalapenos?

Hi, I think that chipotle are normally made from red jalapenos but green are alot easier to find these time. Did the taste of chipotle made from green or red are lot different? Maybe Im wrong but to me its more about the smokey flavor than the pepper and they will both turn brown.

Still, I felt it was necesary. Its funny though, how this fact isn't more well known here where literally whole cities like Mexico City use chipotle as their main food spicing product. I guess producers don't want people to think of chipotles as just chiles jalapeños and assume they are worth the same or do the smoking process them selves at home.
Well thanks for taking my reluctance with such good humor, now let me break the news to my friend I exchanged seeds with accross the world that he is not going to get chipotles out of his chipotle seeds, hell not even smoked jalapeños, hahhaa.
