misc Cleaned Out my Deep Freeze Last Night....AND....

.....found around 400 frozen habaneros that have been sitting in there since about 2009 (not kidding):

Obviously, they're currently stem-on....and far too "mushy" after being frozen for FIFTEEN YEARS to be dehydrated.

So......can they be fermented?......made into hot sauce?.......or do I toss them in my vacant lot, randomly, and see if new plants pop up next year?

Let me know what you all think!

Sniff test: Check if they smell like freezer burn. If they don't they should be fine for some kind of processing.

Yeah....they smell fine. Been in the bottom of the freezer like the creature from "The Thing"... ;)

...but they're SOFT.....as in the options for processing are limited, I think, to a wet method.

I'm just not sure which one....or if anyone has tried to process peppers from frozen.

AJs Puree or a sauce.
Will work for a ferment also. I would add a little bit of fresh things and maybe a slice of cabbage to get fermentation started.

I have used frozen chiles for tonnes of things. Used to use frozen jalapenos in the fresh salsa. Have made sauces, puree, have dehydrated also. You just have to be aware of the massive liquid that will come out. I put a plastic fruit leather tray on the bottom tray to catch the liquid. And only start with one tray of peppers to start. As that one looses the liquid, add a 2nd tray of previously frozen underneath.

Three little 'ol bags? That's it? That's all you've accumulated in 15 years? lol. You've been slackin, buddy! You need to get your grow back on. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use the seeds from those pods. They're most likely dead.

Seriously though, I think Ann summed it up very well. You got lots of options. Could it be time for another pictorial of Paul in the kitchen, creating another masterpiece? If so, I'll pop some popcorn! 🍿
