I've had one for a while, and it's awesome! I can stream all the episodes I bought from iTunes, as well as from Hulu, on top of what Scovie described :)

If you have a spare PC laying around you can achieve much the same effect by using it as an HTPC & running either XBMC or Plex. There are also other prebuilt solutions similar to apple PC like the Roku ($59.99 for 720p, $79 for 1080p) or even cheap Android based devices that tend to be more open than the Apple platform.

Apple TV isn't bad but I'm not too fond of Apple's closed ecosystem. Given the option I prefer to go with a more open alternative. The 2nd gen Apple TVs go for up to $300 on eBay simply because they can be jailbroken and run alternate software. Apple makes nice shiny products but they try their hardest to lock them down.

^^^ WAAAAY over my head.

I am 100% APPLE. Because I don't want to fix it.
I don't want to take it apart and look inside,
I don't want to build my own,
I don't want to deal with viruses, Nortons or whatever, or rebooting or whatever. lol
I just want to turn it on and have it work.

do you have an iPad elcap?

I am just curious how others might like the two together.

Indeed I do, and pairing the two together was completely seamless! I use mine all the time, and have it on a hard-wire connection instead of wireless since I prefer the speed a wire brings

Im an Android user....Just something about NOT being locked down to certain stuff only Apple has put out for me to use....just my Dos Pesos :)

To be honest, i think its good to have some "competition" in the tech world, or else one company would rule the "world" :)

I agree with all the non-Apple users here about the practical perspective of why Apple products are inferior. Plus it doesn't help that Apple is about the most immoral company there is.

This is NOT an Apple Bashing thread. I ain't goin over to your Barbie doll thread talkin all about GI Joes.

I am a die hard Apple fanatic, and it will stay that way.
You won't change my mind, so please be considerate and stay on topic.

It sucks that some how I knew this would happen.

I don't think posting valid alternatives to a product being discussed is straying off topic. I wasn't trying to start an f*#* apple thread, just trying to share other good HTPC options. Some people like a magic black box that "just works", other people like having some control over what's happening in that box. Nothing wrong with either option.

I've heard nothing but good about it. And there are many apple lovers who will love it just the same. That's a good thing. I have a laptop with HDMI out dedicated yo my TV but the wifey has been thinking about this one.

OP: I really love Coke, it is my favorite soda and it is so refreshing.

A: I don't really like Coke, Pepsi is my drink.

B: You can also make your own soda.

OP: GET THE HELL OUT OF MY THREAD UNLESS YOU LOVE COKE I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!

 Scovie you crack me up. You drunk?

It's only just past 4:20 here in the semi-frozen tundra of the Methow valley, but that's no guarantee of anyone's soberness. At least now I understand the Apple Sucks thread. Way to be PC, Scovie.

BTW, Boss, I thought it was Dr Pepper that was the only pop acceptable to drink and if you don't drink Dr Pepper you suck and should be banned forever.
