I searched and looked through the forums and couldn't find anything pertaining to this, if it's a duplication or in the wrong forum I apologize for my ignorance.
It came to my attention yesterday that Chris and his family are going through a major issue in their life. Chris was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoid Leukemia 4 days ago and he is in the hospital under going chemo. I am posting this to ask everyone to keep Chris and his family in your thoughts, well wishes, prayers, or what ever level you personally gather thoughts of well being for others within yourself.
I have never met Chris, but I was fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him over 8 years ago when we were both members of Seed Savers Exchange and through e-mails we ended up doing numerous seed swaps. He was the person who first got me interested in growing peppers when he traded me his pepper seeds for my eggplant seeds. Unfortunately for me, I pissed that relationship away by not staying in touch with him due to my asinine work schedule. I was blessed that when I caught the grow bug again late this year and ran across Chris, that he played off the careless nature of me not staying in touch as no big deal. Pretty big of him in my book !!
I could not write a biography about Chris, but I know that he was one of the key people involved in getting (at that time) rare seeds spread around for others to grow out and in my mind; helping to launch the Hot Pepper craze that we know today. Dedication to peppers and pepper people has always been his strong suit. He told me yesterday that this fight he is going through has helped him put what was important into perspective ...... and he never mentioned a pepper once. Pretty deep huh?
I could ramble on here forever and never do Chris justice I'll just end it by asking that you remember this great person in your thoughts (who happens to love peppers and the people involved in growing them). Cheerz Chris, Gary W. Maness
