Couple sue after Mega Death sauce hospitalizes son

People will sue over anything now a days. If anything they should be suing the server not Steak 'n Shake since they do not even normally carry the sauce. Makes me think the server brought it in to use it as a joke on people. At some point parents and the kid have to be personally accountable, it is not like they forced it down his throat.

thats what extracts will do for ya'....(I'm thinking that this was an extract sauce...right?)

Blair's Mega Death warning label:

"Made with Great Karma. Be Warned this sauce contains ingredients 500 times hotter than a Jalapeno Chile. Use Sparingly. Not recommended for use without dilution."

That family might be reading the labels from now on.

I'm betting the server will be released from active duty there, as the company no doubt frowns on their servers using hot sauces for pranks or practical jokes.

I had an 'accident' last night where a glob rather than a drop of extracted hot sauce ended up being poured into my stew...OH THE PAIN!

Definitely have much more respect for extracts now because of that learned lesson. ;)

I more describe extract taste as "bitter & chemically". Most I've tried also tends to be slow and throaty like homodihydrocapsaicin.

Yes, I tend to agree. When I was buying that hot sauce, I was trying to find one made without a pepper extract. But a few of the ones on the shelf did have it listed on the label.

When I got it home and read the ingredients list with a magnifier, I was disappointed to see that the sauce I'd bought did have a pepper extract listed.

Live and learn.

I agree with every one,you would think that the parents of the minor would use more caution, and the sever should have known better and the kid should have not tried a hot sauce he had never used before. If anyone should be sued it should be the sever, what they are asking for is just plain crazy a trip to the emergency room would not cost them that much.
Years ago I made some hot sauce that had a wine base rather than vinegar and I had bottled it in large beer type bottles with a cap, on my label I wrote a warning note stating that this hot sauce was fermented in the bottle and not to shake it. well My Son in law shook the bottle and then popped the cap off, He won himself a trip to the bathroom to flush his eyes for about a hour, so who's at fault? I don't like the taste of extracts either, just to chemically tasting, I like a more natural taste and burn. What gets me is now days if you look at someone wrong they will try and sue you, instead of saying hey don't look at me that way. No wonder our system of Justice is so messed up, people need to be more sensible and understanding. Of course the Sever should be severely reprimanded or fired for pulling a stunt like that. The Food chain should not be held responsible and I'm sure the Judge will see it that way also.

I just HATE the state that this world is in nowadays. It's all about litigation instead of owning up and taking responsibility.

The hospital staff should sue the boy for giving them extra workload that night when they had to take care of him. Stress your honour. Ten million dollars. Or maybe it was the delivery company that couriered the hot sauce to the town the restaurant is in. Without that guy, none of this would have happened.

Did you read the article? The lawsuit could have validity. A minor child was (allegedly) served and encouraged to use the sauce. You don't know all the details. Maybe it was a prank by some kids working there. Maybe the label was missing. These sauces are no joke especially when expecting Tabasco. If he did break out into hives, have trouble breathing, and suffer pain (anyone here had that extreme abdominal pain from extracts that makes you want to call the ambulance?) it could be a valid case.

True, but $50,000 seems a bit steep!

And the answer to your question is...YES!!! When I did the Seppuku challenge at Buffalo Cantina, I thought I was going to die! If I as at home I would have gone to the ER for sure (seriously).
