two words....."Delirium Tremens"
If you dig Belgian beer....you gotta try this stuff!
Oh, yeah, i forgot one: "St. Bernardus Abt 12"
This stuff's even better than the Delirium!
if you like tremens (belgian strong ale) try out a rochefort 8. its a bit more expensive (roughly 4.99 an 11.2 oz bottle) but its very nice. or, (since you mention st b.) try the prior 8, its really nice as well, and at about 8 dollars for a 750ml its a good buy.
as for the abt 12, thats a fantastic beer too. ive yet to try the special edition 12, but i have a few in my cellar that should be fair game in the coming weeks. try a rochefort 10 (~5.99 per 11.2 oz) its great as well.
st bernardus is brewed with the same water as the famed westvleteren beer, and they actually contract brewed for westvleteren a while ago. the only difference in the two beers (i am told) is the yeast strain they use. having had both of them, i can tell you there is not much difference. its about similar to comparing apples to oranges. rochefort on the other hand is pretty nice, and is more commonly avaliable than the other previously mentioned beers.
i love the belgian beers, but i have since moved away from them and started to become more of an american beer fan, but sometimes there is nothing better than a big corked beer from belgium.
duvel, cinq cents (chimay white), st bernardus tripel, and some other belgian strong golden / tripel ales go very well with the spicy hot foods that i am sure so many of you prefer (otherwise whats the point in reading these forums
)
