Crazy Manzanos

I can only dream of Pubescens plants like Smokemaster's. :) Just getting 3-5 pods is an accomplishment in Michigan. I seriously could not grow too many of that variety if I could get a crop. They are the best IMO. Most useful for all dishes. Smokemaster, I really hope those Rocoto Incas put out for you because they were one hell of a variety even in my cold region! I've got so many Pubescens downstairs that I don't know what is what. lol. My White Rocoto is getting BIG though. 2.5 weeks until the big day. Hardening off starts next week. The tomatoes got tossed out into the cold cruel real world this afternoon in a portable cold frame. :) Fluorescents getting too expensive. It's gambling time.

Plants are looking good guys. I had a red rocoto variety last season and didn't see a single pod. It was in a container though and my container growing skills are rather poor. It grew decent and flowered like crazy but just wouldn't set anything. I have two pubescens going this season. One is in the ground so I hope to at least see a pod or two.

What would you guys say the hottest pubescens is? Well I guess there are a lot of different varieties but I am referring to varieties that resemble the images shown above by Chris and Smokemaster. Kind of apple shaped...

My pubes are just starting to bloom. I hope to get a few pods b4 the heat gets them.

There's the sig of the month.

These were pretty hot-Peru Baseball

But these were about the hottest , crunchiest better tasting ones recently that I've found at Villarta-Villarta Hot and heavies.

Both really nice pods smoke. There isn't anything that I could use for scale but that Peru Baseball looks like a beast. I am assuming it is the size of a baseball?

The red Rocoto was braught to me from Peru by a friend.
Put them in a jar of water labeled Moms pickled Rocoto to get it through Customs.
Yup Baseball sized.
My plant has about 10 almost marble sized pods on it now.Hope the grow baseball sized to but they are only in a #15 pot.

The orange pod is one of 40 or 50pods I baught that were VERY heavy and Hab. Hot
.I call them Hot and Heavies.
I saved each pods seeds separately so if one grows Hot and heavies true to the original pod I'll know which pack did the growing of true Hot and Heavies for me.
With Villarta Pods I seem to get pretty true to pod plants so far.Probably because Pubes don't cross with other peppers.
Still waiting on hot and heavy pods since they are new plants. One of the hottest ones from Villarta so far.

If they grow true is there anyway we might be able to work out a trade or a SASBE?

Smokemaster, I'm very happy with the vigor on those hot and heavies. The plants are getting very big indoors. I can see they'll go crazy once outside!! :) Some of these Villarta strains really seem to have super growing abilities. lol.

Found a new market pretty close to where I live today. Found these, rocotos not manzanos I guess... Too bad seed-wise they're frozen, but a pretty good deal- 15 oz. bag for $3.19 out the door!

I see why they're called manzanos. They really do look like apples!
