Dan Wheldon

If you are into racing, Indy Car Series more specifically, You may have heard that Dan Wheldon passed away a few hours ago at Las Vegas. He was in a 15 car crash, and was air lifted to the hospital.
He was the winner of 2005 and this year's Indy 500, + countless other wins and accomplishments. Dan was my #1 driver in the Indy car series, so for me to be watching the race, see the crash, thinking, everything will be fine. These guys walk away all the time!
Sad day.

He was 33 years old, and he died doing what he loved....

Nod to Dan, his familly, and the whole racing community...

RIP Dan Wheldon saw the crash and assume his was the car that flew 100 yards in the air and hit the fence upside down going 220 mph in a canoe with wheels. He knew the chance they take, very sad.

Yes, very tragic happening today.

Those cars can sustain a tremendous amount of impact and damage, with the drivers usually walking away unscathed, but today the impact engineering and the driver's cage weren't able to spare him his life.

This is very sad. I remember as a kid, Scott Brayton drove a car that my dad's company sponsored and he became a family friend. Losing him was incredibly difficult. All my best goes out to Wheldon's friends and family.

You knew Scott Brayton!!?? Wow! Nice! You have been in the presence of greatness.
After his death, the Indy 500 started giving trophy's in his name. He was amazing. He was in the class of Wheldon, Earnhardt, and the "still with us" group of Tony Stewart, Helio Castrenevez (I think he won the Brayton trophy once), Mario Andretti etc. etc. etc.
Brayton was a great loss to the sport, along with many others like Dan Wheldon,
Thanks for posting this.

i am not a fan of Indy, but RIP whenever a "sport" looses a member it is sad! we lost(i race sport bikes)this was a year ago but he was 12 and was one of those kids that you just knew was going to go places but his life was cut short. just sucks to loose icons in sporting events
