I'm always learning! I didn't know garlic was a winter crop. And coring out the onions? That's very interesting. Everybody probably knows more than I do about planting onions that way or even potatoes. I know not much about other veggies. I just grow peppers, maters, squash, zucchini, and a melon or cucumber. I love that you have lots of different varieties growing of things you'll use. A chefs garden!!!
First time growing Garlic Onions. A bought a few garlic bulbs that were sprouting from the grocery store and planted them yesterday so see how the two differ.
Also learned not to grow Onions and Garlic together, bad companion planting.
More weeding today, put out plants to harden. Garlics about a foot tall now, chives too. Blackcurrant flowering. Planted Thyme around the front, will grow into nice bushes, Garden and Lemon Thyme.
onions have now popped up in the rows
Planted some more Dill/Basil for indoor grow (love the stuff cant get enough of them ), need to get some spinach for indoor grow too and fill the trays.
Have to keep an eye on wasp nests, crush them as I see them.
The ones with the brown antennas are ok, the black ones no. I would rather attract bees, bees and wasps dont get along I think. Last year their were over 20 waspsnests around the garage, would like to minimize that this year. I normally leave them alone, they get a little close when eating outside.
Onions are up and 6", so are the weeds, whenever I water a new set shoot up, if you dont get all the roots then the root is like a hydra and grows many more heads
Potatoes are up 2"
Rain has stopped, no puddles so soil is good, all that coco coir I mixed in.
In spring I threw a pumpkin in the garden, looks like the seeds have all sprouted, massive crop lol, think reduce the amount once the ground dries up a bit.
Weeds like a carpet, again have to wait till things dry out a bit.
Tomatoes, Potatoes (6"), Eggplants, herbs doing fine looks like.
Garlic is about 20"
My indoor heb garden doing ok, Dill great, basil I should have enough, the far right Is Spinach, a bit slow to come. Purple Delight Basil only see one seedling come up so far.
