Did anyone else see anything strange with Betelgeuse last night?

So I was outside last night taking out the trash. Nice night. Clear. Cold.

When the trash was set out, I took a few moments as I often do to do some naked eye stargazing. When I saw Betelgeuse, I originally thought it was an airplane. Not only did I see red, but I also saw some green flashes.

Broke out the binoculars, saw the green flashes still, but it was stationary.

WTF?

After a few minutes the green flashes stopped, so I'm thinking that it was some sort of weird atmospheric phenomenon, but did anyone else see that?

Nah, it was cloudy out here....i usually like to do some amateur stargazing myself, but couldn't last night. It wasn't a planet crossing in front of Betelguese by chance, was it?

I wish, that would have made for a beautiful sight through my telescope.
I checked http://heavens-above.com/ and didn't see any planets near it at the time.

Edit for:
I sent all the details of what I saw to a few different people, Harvard, thebadastronomer, things like that. Haven't heard anything back yet, and I fully expect that this was just the atmosphere trolling me, but hey, who knows. There's always that remotest of remote chances that I saw something important and reported it first.

No responses to the emails I sent out.

I figured that the people at Harvard wouldn't. That's what I get for sending the info to a second-rate university.

I was hoping that Phil would have at least responded with something snarky, but alas...

Plus, none of the websites reported anything unusual with the star itself, so it doesn't look like I get to name a supernova. Would have been cool, I thought about it after posting here and decided that I would name it after a woman I love dearly.

At least I had the experience of seeing a really cool sight.
