Wade Davis is pretty awesome. He wrote Serpent and the Rainbow (Haiti Voodoo and Zombis) and One River (about searching for indigenous hallucinogens in South America)

I was in Haiti, and we saw someone considered to be a "zombie". Would be interested (in pm so as to keep this thread on track) to hear what you gleaned from that book.
