smoking dry rub

experiment using a basic dry rub recipe and add heat to it using pepper powder...

make your dry rub to your taste...

paprika, dry mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper is a good starting place then you can sweeten it with brown sugar if you want sweet and add pepper powder to your taste...there are many variations on this...some use thyme and other spices....

I agree I would either make my own rub to my specific flavor profile or buy a rub and add your own punch. I make my own for my specific taste profile, but if I'm having a party or cooking for friends I buy simply marvelous rubs. They are not only very good, but more importantly they are very pallet neutral and the type of rub just about everyone would enjoy. I often add a tiny bit of smoked TS powder if I want a bit more heat in the rub.
