Eggplant Question

OK, growing some regular purple and a couple of rosa biancas. How do you tell when they are ripe? Man I wish they had a timer that would pop when they're done. Thanks.
 
When the skin turns dull they are too far gone. Pick when they are shiny. Also they go hard when they are past eating. Hope this helps.
 
Thanks Biscombe. I picked it this morning. Nice and shiny and it has just a bit of give when squeezed. Should be just about perfect. I know what we're having for dinner tonight.
