Essegi 2014: 1st grow! Winter is coming.

Ok, today i decided to plant seeds.
First of all i want to thank who helped me in a thread and Sarge in particular that helped me to decide what to do! :D And Lonewolf from pepperfriends forum that has helped me a lot!

My list, all from Semillas, begin of september 2013:

ir2YmjGmgP7ma.jpg

  • Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Red
  • HP22B
  • Trinidad Douglah
  • Chocolate Bhut Jolokia
  • Fatalii
  • Fatalii White
  • Ferenc Tender
I've planted all but Ferenc Tender seeds, i'll plant them next month or in beginning of March. If i'll plant them.
11 per type.
I've treated seeds for 15 mins in a 3% bleach solution then i washed them very well in water before planting.
During that process i lost 1 seed of Trinidad Douglah and 3 of Chocoloate Bhut Jolokia (i suppose 2 of that lost seeds were too tiny anyway).

I've used plastic glasses with an hole:

The soil, specific for seeds (here before planting):
iPgVihUluA5J0.jpg

  • PH 6-7
  • C/N 25
  • 0,6 dS/m
  • organic ferthilizer
  • neutral peat 65% volume
  • organic carbon on dry content 35%
  • organic nitrogen on dry content 11%
  • fulvic and humc carbon on dry content 11%
hope the last 4 are translated accurately...

So 62 plants in total. In a 60*100 cm table
  • I plan to grow them all by myself until i have to change the vase.
  • Then i keep 2 per type (12 in total) of them in a 2,4 L vase each (top external diameter 18 cm). It's ok for my table. The rest goes to friends and relatives.
  • Then 1 per type in a 15-20 L vase each and 1 per type in ground. Or all in vases, but probably half on ground. Of course the last vases will go outside, i have a nice spot of 15 m lenght along my house walls that is without wind and quite hot.
Room, that is heating room:

That round thing in the left is warm... I've turned on radiator on right.

Here measured temps in center table:

iMr6TuzQdT2ux.jpg

Considering some parallax error is 27°C or little more (hoping that thing is accurate) which is 81°F
In the night will be lower but i think still above 20°C (68°F)
There's some natural light, hope that helps.
I have to do some funny things for the light, unfortunately at home have prohibited to use drying racks that would have been perfect.

I've a 60*3 watts LED light, nearly 10K lumens. I've found a good price and more than half was a birthday present from friends...

It's the round thing.
Well, no cats or dog allowed in growing room! Hope all goes well..

Wing may be clipped but the rule of thirds is spot on! Can't wait to see your blossom pics.
Thanks! Btw i said something wrong: from exif i see that i didn't use flash for that shot, so i was in direct sun, probably i used it for other shots in that moment. :P

Thanks!

Here an early rocoto flower:

Not my best shot, that thing is extremely sensitive at the lowest wind, i must retry on home and i messed a bit on first shots (the nearest part is more blurry)... And i suppose i have dirt in sensor. I must check more carefully...

And about 7pod... Seems like the fact that i moved it far from the wall has been benefic, less fallen flowers and some more pods! It's still so hot that in the evening it's slightly withered, maybe it's the pot fault that is a bit little...

Essegi,

That macro lens and your skills are taking some fine pics!

Your question about the dropped flowers and leaves, I always see a lot of dropped flowers before some set and become pods. If the leaves are older ones from when it was inside I would say it's normal, especially if it's the lower ones.

Things are looking good, keep it green!

Thanks Devv, 7pod now has some pods now!
Here one (rouhgly 1 inch big):

Hoping to use real peppers in next TD!!!

Ferenc tender has exploded (the first 2 from left, confusing pic).

Here a cherry pepper flower:

A wasp:

Here the most beatiful flower i have: lantana plant:

Here an early flower:

Here in the moment when it's most beautiful:

After that all flower blossoms and become slighly purple.

Here its early fruit:

I'll track that too.

Zuicchine and pumpkin flowers:

Pumpkin flower in particular:

You could coat it and deep fry or mince, mix with flour, eggs and made something like a donut like that:

It's good!

Btw... Pretty lucky with weather that year: definetly hot early and some nice rains every 1-2 weeks...

I've not tracked very well, that week min shuold have been around 16-17°C and max around 34°C or more (i saw in my car 39°C in early evening but it was hot for the sun). Today and yesterday due to rain and clouds max has been below 30, maybe 25°C...

In july-august max is usually 37°C, very rarely 40°C.

The problem for people is that it's very humid!

That's getting pretty warm!

I grew up on Long Island (NY) PLENTY of humidity there! Late July and August were murder. NO AC in the homes back then.
Btw that week it's not so hot, so we still sleep well, but enough to make peppers happy! Btw mins are destined to grow (and to be a pain for the night in home without air conditioning.).

Come stai fratello?

Essegi, I can't believe it gets that hot in Barbarano. You are just east of Verona? I know they are getting strong winds and rain in Caldiero. My grandfather is from Castelbottaccio,Campabasso.
Hi Pr0d! Here it's fine!
You are correct on location. 50-60km east of Verona city.
Of course i am speaking of absolute max temps in the year.
To tell the truth i don't remember if in Barbarano we have reached 40°C (i do remember we reached that many years ago in Vicenza city).

Seems a nice place Castelbottaccio (Campobasso), quite far from here! :D

I went to my aunt place adn i found a fatalii white pod! Unexpected!

iCy6oZaXbcsaZ.jpg

Phone shot...

I must say that chocolate bhut are a bit different from other, more brushy (shorter and with more dense branches...). Next time i'll take some comparison shots (and i'll steal Joyners idea to join 2 images to 1, good idea!).

Small update...
That ferenc tender pod is entering in the badass realm:
iz4C0u2JKtPiN.jpg

Now it's around 5 inches long...

Other ferenc tender plant:

Also that peperone plant (bell pepper?) is growing nicely:
iQvrKbwbWz8K9.jpg

Always wasps...
igJ8TrbZLTlqQ.jpg

No pics today, but also some plants at my aunts have pods (small ones atm).
I must take pics, i see some plants wiit dark branches and other of the same specie with bright branches... Strange...
That week should rain yet again. i suppose in next week things will be interesting.

My Paternal Grandparents came to the US in 1911 or 1917 (I forget:) from the Milan area. The family owned vineyards, and when they passed and left them to my Father, he went to Italy and saw the extended family working the places, and signed them over to them.

Just a fantastic wasp pic Essegi. The European wasps and bees look totally different than ours here, which have no black coloration.

Glad to see the poddage!

Excellent pics man! Should be some pod pic contests around here. May actually get me to haul the DSLR out of the apartment.

That wasp is a ham! Also pumpkin and zucchini flowers, yum!
