Essegi 2014: 1st grow! Winter is coming.

Ok, today i decided to plant seeds.
First of all i want to thank who helped me in a thread and Sarge in particular that helped me to decide what to do! :D And Lonewolf from pepperfriends forum that has helped me a lot!

My list, all from Semillas, begin of september 2013:

ir2YmjGmgP7ma.jpg

  • Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Red
  • HP22B
  • Trinidad Douglah
  • Chocolate Bhut Jolokia
  • Fatalii
  • Fatalii White
  • Ferenc Tender
I've planted all but Ferenc Tender seeds, i'll plant them next month or in beginning of March. If i'll plant them.
11 per type.
I've treated seeds for 15 mins in a 3% bleach solution then i washed them very well in water before planting.
During that process i lost 1 seed of Trinidad Douglah and 3 of Chocoloate Bhut Jolokia (i suppose 2 of that lost seeds were too tiny anyway).

I've used plastic glasses with an hole:

The soil, specific for seeds (here before planting):
iPgVihUluA5J0.jpg

  • PH 6-7
  • C/N 25
  • 0,6 dS/m
  • organic ferthilizer
  • neutral peat 65% volume
  • organic carbon on dry content 35%
  • organic nitrogen on dry content 11%
  • fulvic and humc carbon on dry content 11%
hope the last 4 are translated accurately...

So 62 plants in total. In a 60*100 cm table
  • I plan to grow them all by myself until i have to change the vase.
  • Then i keep 2 per type (12 in total) of them in a 2,4 L vase each (top external diameter 18 cm). It's ok for my table. The rest goes to friends and relatives.
  • Then 1 per type in a 15-20 L vase each and 1 per type in ground. Or all in vases, but probably half on ground. Of course the last vases will go outside, i have a nice spot of 15 m lenght along my house walls that is without wind and quite hot.
Room, that is heating room:

That round thing in the left is warm... I've turned on radiator on right.

Here measured temps in center table:

iMr6TuzQdT2ux.jpg

Considering some parallax error is 27°C or little more (hoping that thing is accurate) which is 81°F
In the night will be lower but i think still above 20°C (68°F)
There's some natural light, hope that helps.
I have to do some funny things for the light, unfortunately at home have prohibited to use drying racks that would have been perfect.

I've a 60*3 watts LED light, nearly 10K lumens. I've found a good price and more than half was a birthday present from friends...

It's the round thing.
Well, no cats or dog allowed in growing room! Hope all goes well..

Hey Essegi,
I'm glad to see you started a grow log. Have fun with your seedling startup and plantout.
Throw in some spicy food photos here...as alot of us do.
Aha.......the LED (disco) lit seedling photos reminds me of a transparency film produced by Kodak...Ektachrome Infrared.  I use to use that and the images produced have similar colors.............nice !

I think you've got it nailed down, now.
Looks like a good light too.
Good Werk!
Thanks! Now i'm still working on temps, i've lowered a bit cause it's still 26°C on leftmost position under the table (and with mercury in shade). That means in right should be more and in soil level too (the light it's not too hot, but still hot)...

Congrats on all your little babies!
Thanks! ;)

Amazing new arrivals! And fantastic photos! Very well composed . It'll be fun to see how the grow light works out.
Thanks! Hope that thing works well, we'll see! :D Hoping to have better photo gear and knowledge for 2015 season. :P

Thanks and nice to read you again Pic, i didn't see you much lately. ;) Yeah colors are strange (nearly untouched raw, just corrected a bit with picasa, i must learn to use lightzone, rawtherapee or darktable... I've heard they're good free alternatives to lightroom), that are called ufo leds. :D
First dish with pods will be simply pasta with oil and small pieces... Just mix cut fresh peppers in uncooked evo oil. If i had fresh pods all year that would be my default food. Maybe adding some breadcrumbs... Even that simple i like it.

Nice start Essegi,

I like the improvising to hang the light. I'm from the school of do what works!

The light gives the pics a cool color.

Keep it green!
Thanks! I like to keep things simple! :D

Other births, to summarize after 10 days:
  • Trinidad Douglah 6/10
  • Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Red 6/11
  • HP22B 2/11
  • Fatalii White 1/11
  • Chocolate Bhut Jolokia 0/8
  • Fatalii 0/11
Strange thing, Fatalii White was 1 of the first, but only 1, maybe i had spotted 1 Chocolate Bhut but soil seemed as if it was a bit dug, i put 1mm soil above (don't know if this was a good thing to do)...
Hope to see Fatalli and Choco Bhuts that weekend or before!

Btw i've not covered glasses, i water pots every evening with small water with some lemon drops, unfortunately i don't have a ph tester...

Great start!
Thanks! ;)

Very nice Essegi. There is more heat potential in that room than the rest of Italy. I can't wait to see what spicy pasta creations you come up with this fall.
Ah ha lol thanks, i doubt that, there are some master growers in Italy too, my growing it's a joke in comparison, like it's a joke compared to many here, but it's good for me! :D

Btw quite curious of Fatalii's taste, i've seen that is JayT fav (at least from his profile...). I've heard that is quite pungent, wondering if combining with burning superhots is nice...

Thanks guys!

+1 CR and + 2 FW :fireball: , updated chart:

  1. Trinidad Douglah 6/10
  2. Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Red 6/11
  3. Fatalii White 4/11
  4. HP22B 3/11
  5. Chocolate Bhut Jolokia 0/8
  6. Fatalii 0/11
Fatalii and Choco Bhut, to armssssss!!!

And i've seen some darker leaves. In the Trinidad Douglah closeup of yesterday it's barely visible, but there's at the edge. Here today:

iKwoLZ1y6PH8r.jpg

Same of a Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Red:
itTaeCfYJKljN.jpg

And another Trinidad Douglah:
ibzSTSJ70GsHbQ.jpg

I noticed max T (that is center light at leaves height) too high: 31,5 C (88,7 °F).
I've moved light at begining position as here: http://i.minus.com/iR5Oi2BiimaOA.jpg
Now it's 29,5°C (85,1 °F), i think it's better. I suppose light is still ok. We will see that.
Of course i could lower radiator but i fear to lose some temps in periphery of light.

About Carolina Reaper: hook form yesterday, the third, nearly hasn't moved. I remember my first one was slow to go from hook to sprout. Second one was faster, i don't know if as others. Maybe "it's not a bug, It's a feature".:D

Today no new borns... 13 days, germ rate <30%, no Fatalii no Choco Bhuts... Hope i shouldn't worry...

Btw Carolina Reaper that was hook for 2 or 3 days has sprouted! First with 3 leaves!
