vendor European site; Tasty-peppers.nl

Hi all,

I thought I'd open a thread on tasty-peppers as I couldn't find one. It's meatfreak's shop and he sells quite a selection of interesting varieties. Especially if you are looking for Jalapeños, than you need to go there.. he has by far the largest selection of jalapeño varieties in Europe (atleast from all the online shops that I know). Offcourse he also sells superhots and plenty of other weird varieties. He also has very large images of the actual pods so that you know what you will be growing, not the super pink, blue and other pics of other vendors.. just real unedited pics that don't make cheiro roxas look like candy.

In my experience (4 orders now) the seeds are shipped out very quickly and are in 1-2 days later (but that's because we're currently in the same country.. yes I know, that's cheating.. ). He sells at very decent prices and the seeds have good germination rates, my previous batch had a wopping 91% germ rate and it didn't take very long for the first chinenses to pop up; a sign that he ships fresh seeds. I don't have statistics on my last batch (jalapeño varieties) yet, as they are just sowed 3 days ago but I'm confident they will be just as good.

And another plus, it's one of the few vendors that also sells an extensive selection of tomato seeds (so you can grow your own instant salsa? ). Especially the Sacharnaja Sliwa Krasnaja roma type tomato is a really nice variety with a huge yield.

What are your experiences with meat's shop?

I ordered seed from this source just before xmas... they took about 3 weeks to arrive, which is entirely reasonable. I'm at least one continent and one ocean away, on any route.

I never looked at his annuums -- nor anything but his chinense selections, but i was impressed with his variety. Thus, i never saw his jalapeno varieties.

I was very specifically ferreting out a source for the Yucatan White Habanero. There has been so much muddling of identity between Peruvian, 'White Bullet' and Yucatan White Habs that i read each seed catalog carefully. I wanted to be certain.
The deal-closer for me was a sum of my confidence in the merchant's certainty of having the right product, and my cost-conscious regard for seed price. Tasty Peppers was sufficiently better than the next-best option that i was confident in my choice, despite the fact that i've never ordered anything from another continent.

Pfeffer, your observations on his germination percentages and seed freshness are putting any last worries aside for me. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! :)

Glad you got them, sending out orders during the holidays always worries me. Although most were delayed everything, except for 1, did arrive at their destination. That one got send again. If you got questions or a problem you can always contact me.

I ordered some seeds around Christmas because I was looking for a particular variety.
I ended up ordering three types and was pleased when I received an extra variety sent along with my order.

I planted two of the varieties and had 100% germination (4 total seeds) in 8 days.

I would order from Stefen again.

Thought I'd give a 1 week later update. 84% of the jalapeños and chinenses (scotch bonnet foodarama) came up already. So it's all good with these mighty fine germ rates. And I'm confident that some more chinenses still need to come up.

Thanks, Justin! Happy to hear about the 100% germ rate, that's what we want :)

Awesome germ rates with his seeds.  Also has tons of tomato seeds to choose from as well!
Thanks, J. Your gonna want some tomatoes to go along with your peppers, right :D

That's good but sure hope more will follow this coming week :)

In post#4, i hadn't yet opened the package Stefan sent me. Not only did each seed packet have 11-13 seeds, he included 2 extra seed packets (all i ordered was 2 packets of White Yucatan Habaneros).
The 2 gift packets were Giant White Habanero and a non-pungent C. annuum called Elephant Ear -- a large-fruited type from eastern Europe renowned for flavor. Apparently, Elephant Ear, eggplant, garlic and chilis are fire-roasted, then blended into a sauce called "ajvar" (pronounced "ay-var"), which is popular in the region. YouTube video reviews indicate that it's also delicious raw, distinctly different from bell peppers, with an apple-like tanginess and sweetness.

Stefan, i do not have room for these in my garden plans, but friends do. I'm going to give some plants to some good people in my neighborhood, and tell them where these fine gifts came from.

Thank you.

Glad your happy with it, Mike :) Have been growing the Elephant Ear for 3 seasons now, it keeps returning to the list. It's just an great all round variety. Be sure to ask them for some pods in return once they are ripe they got the most flavor ;)

I have soms great news. I had some late chinenses popping up (heated prop was already in use, so I started them without heat). The germ rate closes at 94.5% which I think is impressive. I unfortunately lost some due to helmet heads, but that is soil related.

I might be ordering some tomatoes soon, as I just figuren I ran out of Sacharnaja Słiwa Krasnaja tomatoes. It's a must have that I'm planning to sow in March. All though it doesn't have a spectacular taste, I love the freshness in salads and the awesome yield.

I glad somebody started this thread!  Thanks Pfeffer!  I regret not doing it myself.

Stefan's seeds are top notch quality and germination!  And, like Jamie said,  I think they are a little on the  affordable side, but thats not a complaint!

His professional ability, care, and friendliness all go into his product.

Keep up the great work Stefan/ Meatie!

Ordered 8 varaities last weekend and got them this thursday i belive it was.
Only thing is that i got 4 extras and my OCD tells me that i HAVE to grow them too, so,  if the peppers are rising up in riot and taking over the house im blaming Meatfreak ^^

So thanks Meatfreak for exelent service :)

Sorry for the late reply, missed this topic when visiting the forum  :surprised:
